Installation Hospital:

The Martin Army Community Hospital at Fort Benning is a medical facility that offers an extensive variety of inpatient medical services to eligible military beneficiaries. The emergency room offers the latest in state-of-the-art technology to preserve life, and provides efficient care.

The original hospital opened in 1958, and was one of the largest and most comprehensive community hospitals in the Army’s inventory in its heyday. Named in honor of Maj. Gen. Joseph I. Martin, the rededication took place at the new site in November 2014.

The current MACH, open since Nov. 17, 2014, is located at 6600 Van Aalst Blvd. The world-class facility is 745,000 square feet, which doubles the footprint of the legacy Martin Army Community Hospital (which is scheduled for demolition in the future). The hospital has 70 single inpatient rooms, eight acuity-adaptable intensive care units, 24 medical-surgical units, 24 behavioral health units and 14 postpartum units. The facility has increased medical capability with five general operating rooms, one orthopedic operating room, two endoscopy suites and six oral surgery rooms.

Additionally, capacity and function were added in the pharmacy and radiology departments. The hospital incorporates evidence-based design features and environmental sustainability requirements and provides a healthier and safer environment for its beneficiaries. It maximizes patient and family satisfaction and well-being by co-locating related services into care centers, providing single patient rooms and providing appropriate levels of patient privacy, as well as providing places where patients can socially interact with family, friends and caregivers. It also provides increased use of natural light and increased access to nature, for a calming patient experience. Most importantly, this facility optimizes patient care coordination through the use of state-of-the-art technology platforms with a focus on increased patient safety.

MACH received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED Gold certification recognizes the design and construction of a facility that sustains natural resources by minimizing its impact on the environment and efficient energy consumption. The project delivers superior energy performance, capable commissioning and sensitive treatment of the site's natural amenities, and features that mitigate wider environmental impacts.

The building fabric incorporates materials with recycled content from within the regional 500-mile limit and avoids substances that adversely influence environmental quality. Precautions exercised during construction diverted waste from landfill or incineration and delivered an interior environment free from harsh chemicals in harmful concentrations. Potable water consumption is restricted through context-appropriate landscape design that limits irrigation needs and water, conserving plumbing fixtures.

MACH sets the gold standard for future construction projects Army-wide, pioneering new military construction conventions. Overall, the team was able to deliver a world-class facility that provided cost savings and high customer satisfaction, an enhanced image for the United States Army Corps of Engineers, and increased the quality of care for patients. The hospital holds full accreditation by the Joint Commission.

Army medicine secure messaging service is a secure online service through which health care providers and patients can securely communicate about health matters. Through the Army medicine secure messaging service, you can consult your doctor about specific health symptoms, request a prescription refill, request appointments, receive lab or test results and access health information. Prescription Refills:

Refill requests are processed in two business days. Prescription refills can be requested in two ways: Call the automated call-in refill services at 706-544-1572 or visit TRICARE Online.

Controlled Substance Prescription Policy:

Fort Benning MACH pharmacies may only dispense a maximum of a 30-day supply of most controlled substances. The only authorized exception is for controlled substances prescribed for attention deficit hyperactivity disorders, which may be filled for up to a 100-day supply. Schedule III through V medications may be written for a 30-day supply, with up to five refills.

Pharmacy Identification Card Policy:

It is necessary to provide a military identification card for a patient 10 years old or older, or a current copy of the ID card, when obtaining a prescription at any military pharmacy or TRICARE retail network pharmacy, to help establish eligibility and authorization. It is permissible for military ID cards to be photocopied (front and back) to assist in eligibility verification and for the purpose of rendering care. Smartphone copies will be accepted if front and back copies are legible.

Prescription Services at Retail Network Pharmacies:

If you need a prescription filled right away and the pharmacy is closed or you are unable to use the Fort Benning MACH pharmacy, visit one of the civilian retail pharmacies that are approved by TRICARE.

Medication and Sharps Disposal:

Please safely discard unused medication and controlled substances away from children and pets. For detailed information, visit the U.S. Food and Medicine Administration website for guidance on disposal of unused medications. Home users of sharps (needles) are urged to place sharps in hard-wall containers (for example, a laundry detergent bottle with a screw-on lid) before disposal, in order to protect garbage collectors from needle sticks. Call your local department of health to learn more.

Patient Advocate:

The patient advocate is a liaison between patients and the hospital staff. Patients are encouraged to contact the non-commissioned officer in charge or the clinic administrator to resolve disputes or concerns. However, if the matter cannot be resolved, a patient advocate will be happy to assist you. Patients may visit patient advocates, reach them by phone or through the Interactive Customer Evaluation system to address concerns, comments or compliments.

Referral Management:

Referral Management tracks all referrals to specialty care in and out of our medical treatment facility. Referral Management takes care of specialty care referrals sent to TRICARE, civilian providers or other MTFs that cannot be seen at MACH. Referral Management manages right of first refusal requests from TRICARE. Referral Management coordinates with specialty clinics regarding requests from other MTFs. Referral Management reviews referrals for medical necessity and appropriateness of level of care.

Referral Management consult coordinators can assist patients with questions regarding referrals. The Referral Management consult coordinators office is located in the beneficiary service center on the first floor of the main concourse. Enrollment Services:

Enrollment Services is responsible for providing beneficiaries and staff with information on enrollment status such as eligibility and enrolled primary care managers. Additionally, Enrollment Services enrolls TRICARE for Life beneficiaries into the military treatment facility TRICARE Plus program. Enrollment Services is responsible for managing 134 PCMs and more than 49,000 beneficiaries that are assigned to the PCMs. Please contact your enrollment specialists at 762-408-2580/2579. Dental:

The Fort Benning Dental Activity is a subordinate command of the South East Regional Dental Command, located at Fort Gordon, Georgia, and of the U.S. Army Dental Command, located at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

DENTAC is responsible for the treatment and maintenance of the oral and dental health of all soldiers assigned to Fort Benning and Fort Rucker, Alabama. Maximizing dental readiness that supports the timely mobilization and deployment of Fort Benning divisional and tenant units and tenant units at Fort Rucker is our mission and reason for existence. DENTAC is also responsible for providing dental support to the CONUS Replacement Center for active-duty and Reserve Component military members and civilians, both general schedule and contractors, preparing for deployment, and the demobilization of redeploying soldiers.

DENTAC conducts advanced education in general dentistry 12-month residency program for newly graduated dentists. This additional training prepares them to perform the full scope of comprehensive dentistry required in remote or isolated sites where U.S. Army soldiers live and work.

After-hours emergency dental patients should either report to the MACH emergency room or call the ER at 762-408-2233. Examples of true dental emergencies include jaw fracture, lacerations, knocked-out teeth, severely fractured or displaced teeth, oral swelling that interferes with breathing, fever over 101 degrees Fahrenheit from oral infection, uncontrollable hemorrhaging or severe acute toothache pain not controlled by medication.
