Job opportunities are greatly limited as to the type and salary. Jobs are more plentiful in Savannah, Brunswick, Statesboro and surrounding areas. Good employment prospects are Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, Social Services, Construction, Physical Security, Teaching, Food Service, Warehouse and Management. ACS Employment Readiness Program
Soldiers, DA civilian employees, spouses, retirees, surviving spouses, and family members (to include youth), are eligible and highly encouraged to participate free of charge. A professional Job Search Trainer will help you identify your immediate and long-range career goals. Based on your needs assessment an Individual Career Plan will be developed to help ensure that you receive the necessary assistance. Employment Readiness will provide job search training, but it's not a job placement service. A professional Job Search Trainer will help you identify your skills and assist you every step of the way during your job search. You'll also have access to valuable references on the national job market and be able to attend seminars and workshops on job search strategies, interview skills, and salary negotiation. A resource center containing computers are available for preparing letters and resumes. The ACS Employment Readiness Program (ERP) provides individual screening and referrals for job vacancies. Civilian Personnel Advisory Center (CPAC)
The Appropriated Funds (AF) and Non-Appropriated Funds (NAF) offices are located in the CPAC office, which is located in the Soldier Service Center, building 253. They provide job listings for federal jobs and instruct interested applicants on how to apply. The CPAC office also provides job vacancy announcements and applications for NAF jobs for Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield. Vacancy announcements are also available online.
Department of Labor
The Georgia Department of Labor (DOL) offers employment assistance, workshops and career development programs to assist military families with job searching. Hours of operation are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. DOL is located at 740 General Stewart Way Suite 202, in Hinesville, Georgia. Chamber of Commerce
The Hinesville Chamber of Commerce is another good resource for employment opportunities. You may request a listing of businesses within the area to start your cold contacts and to understand the hiring process. Contact the office at 912-368-4445 for more information.
Contracting positions available for solicitation can be obtained at the contracting office located at building 621 on William H. Wilson Road Fort Stewart. To apply for positions at the commissary or any of the Army and Air Force Exchange (AAFES) facilities, openings are listed and applications are taken on their respective websites which can be found in the Contacts section. Job announcements are also available in the post newspaper, the Frontline and the local newspaper, The Coastal Courier.
For job hunting purposes, be sure to hand carry all employment records and documents such as, resumes, Standard Form (SF) 50, college transcripts, certificates and licenses. Any other documentation pertinent to employment should also be hand carried.
