The Major Command at Holloman is Air Education and Training Command (AETC). The F-117 Stealth Fighter has been retired and the F-22 Raptor reassigned. The 49th Wing supports national security objectives as directed by the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Wing maintains its rapid mobility capability with the F-16 Fight Falcons.
Specific breeds of dogs are banned from base housing. They include Pit Bulls, American Staffordshire Bull Terriers, English Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Rottweilers and breeds determined by the vet as having dominant traits geared towards aggression. Mandatory microchip identification is required for all pets (cats and dogs) residing on base at time of registration or at the next vaccination.
To protect your pet, shipment of pets into the El Paso Airport may be restricted, especially during hot or cold weather extremes. Work closely with your air carrier to avoid disappointment.

Winter travel can be hazardous as many areas of New Mexico experience temperatures well below freezing. It is not uncommon in parts of New Mexico to have roadways closed due to winter weather conditions. Passports and Visas
Ensure member and/or dependents have the required passports and/or visa prior to final out-processing. Member and/or dependents are not allowed to final out-process without the required passports/visas in hand for themselves (if applicable) and/or dependents. Members electing the accompanied tour will not be permitted to out-process without having the required passports/visas in hand for themselves (if applicable) and/or dependents.
These actions are necessary to prevent unforeseen hardships to the military members and their families. Therefore, as a last reiteration, it is essential, members do not out-process without having the appropriate passports/visas for themselves (if applicable) and/or dependents.

1. Congratulations on your assignment to Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico. This is one of Air Education and Training Command's busiest installations, and will be one of your best assignments. New Mexico is truly a great place to work and play. We enjoy a warm, mild climate and exceptionally close ties with the surrounding communities. You will find the people of New Mexico to be gracious hosts who will make you feel very welcome.
2. Holloman plays a key role in the defense of the United States with operational squadrons flying the F-16 Fighting Falcon, as well as the MQ-1 and MQ-9. The base is also host to a variety of organizations providing scientific and technical support to agencies throughout the Air Force and Department of Defense.
3. Good sponsorship is a very important part of your upcoming move. If you are not contacted by a sponsor, please call the Airman and Family Readiness Center's Relocation Assistance Program team at 575-572-7754 or DSN 312-572-7754. Defense Service Network (DSN) Dialing Instructions
The DSN is the provider of long-distance communications service for the Department of Defense (DoD). Every installation has a special DSN number and the numbers vary by world-wide location. In order to place a call using DSN, the caller must be using a military phone on an installation. Cell phones cannot dial DSN numbers. When dialing a DSN number from a United States installation to another United States installation, it is unnecessary to dial the DSN 312 area code. When dialing a DSN number to/from overseas locations, the DSN area code must be included. The operator can be reached at commercial (719) 567-1110. Please note that long distance charges may be incurred.
