Welcome Letter
MEMORANDUM FOR ALL NEWCOMERS
FROM: 49 WG/CC
SUBJECT: Welcome to Holloman Air Force Base
Congratulations on your assignment to Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico. This is one of Air Education and Training Command's busiest installations, and will be one of your best assignments. New Mexico is truly a great place to work and play. We enjoy a warm, mild climate and exceptionally close ties with the surrounding communities. You will find the people of New Mexico to be gracious hosts who will make you feel very welcome.
Holloman plays a key role in the defense of the United States with operational squadrons flying the F-16 Fighting Falcon, as well as the Reaper. The base is also host to a variety of organizations providing scientific and technical support to agencies throughout the Air Force and Department of Defense.
Good sponsorship is a very important part of your upcoming move. If you are not contacted by a sponsor, please call the Military and Family Readiness Center's Relocation Assistance Program team at 575-572-7754 or DSN 312-572-7754. If married, please encourage your spouse to attend Holloman Newcomers Orientation with you. This is a good time to become familiar the the helping agencies.
I know you will find Holloman a professionally rewarding tour and a great place to live. Welcome to Team Holloman--we look forward to your arrival.
Specific breeds of dogs are banned from base housing. Mandatory microchip identification is required for all pets (cats and dogs) residing on base at time of registration or at the next vaccination. For questions regarding housing regulations, contact Soaring Heights at 888-897-8428.
Winter travel can be hazardous as many areas of New Mexico experience temperatures well below freezing. The New Mexico State Dept. of Transportation may be reached at 1-800-432-4269 for weather, related road conditions and for road construction information.
Defense Service Network (DSN) Dialing Instructions
The DSN is the provider of long-distance communications service for the Department of Defense (DoD). Every installation has a special DSN number and the numbers vary by world-wide location. In order to place a call using DSN, the caller must be using a military phone on an installation. Cell phones cannot dial DSN numbers. When dialing a DSN number from a United States installation to another United States installation, it is unnecessary to dial the DSN 312 area code. When dialing a DSN number to/from overseas locations, the DSN area code must be included.
