Policies and rules for shipping pets vary at each installation. It’s important to understand the regulations, prohibitions and laws at your new installation before moving with a pet. Below, you’ll find installation-specific details for registering, boarding and transporting your pet.
There is no quarantine in New Mexico.
As you begin your relocation, you should update pet ID tags. If your animal is lost as you are enroute, a tag listing your old address and disconnected phone number will not help you be reunited. A good idea is to identify a friend or family member as a contact while you are on the road. As soon as you get your new address and phone number at this base, you should then get another updated tag.
The Air Force defines a pet as a dog or a cat. The maximum number of pet shipments per family is two, a single pet weighing 100 pounds or more is considered to be two pets. For a list of all authorizations/entitlements related to pets visit the Passenger Section of your Traffic Management Office. Pet shipments are authorized for personnel in PCS status only. Air Mobility Command allows shipment of pets on military aircraft on a space available basis at a reduced cost to members.
Specific instructions, cost and reservations for air shipment by military or commercial carrier should be obtained directly from the carrier well in advance of travel in order to avoid delays or disappointments. Age, health, crating and environmental restrictions may apply. To protect your pet, shipment of pets into the El Paso Airport may be restricted especially during hot or cold weather extremes. Work closely with your air carrier to avoid disappointment.
NOTE: Effective 1 Jan 06, specific breeds of dogs are banned from base housing - Pit Bulls, American Staffordshire Bull Terriers, English Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Rottweiler and breeds determined by the vet as having dominant traits geared towards aggression. Mandatory microchip identification is required for all pets (cats and dogs) residing on base. To register your pet please bring your microchip paperwork to the veterinarian clinic or make an appointment at 575-572-3303 to have your pet chipped.
The temporary lodging facility has a limited number of rooms which allow pets. There are no kennels on Holloman AFB. Your sponsor can be of great help to you in trying to make a boarding kennel selection based on facilities and driving time from Holloman. Reservations are all very necessary.
