Shipping Pets

Pets must be registered with base Vehicle, Pet and Weapon Registration within 10 days of arrival or upon reaching four months of age. Bring current veterinary vaccination records, rabies certification and proof of a functioning microchip. Registered pets must wear the issued tag on their collar or have it affixed to their cage. If moving into base housing, contact the Family Housing Branch at 703-784-2711 for its pet documentation and housing requirements. Dogs and cats four months and older must have a current rabies vaccination under Virginia law. Dogs must be licensed. Cat licensing depends on the locality. Ask your veterinarian about the appropriate vaccination schedule, annual heartworm testing for dogs and year-round heartworm prevention.

Quantico does not require pets to be quarantined upon arrival. Pets entering Virginia must meet applicable health and rabies vaccination requirements. Eligible service members may receive reimbursement for transporting one dog or cat during a permanent change of station move, subject to current Joint Travel Regulations and reimbursement limits.

The Veterinary Treatment Facility is in Building 3310, Purvis Road. It provides appointments for eligible pets of active-duty service members, reservists on active-duty orders and retirees. Services include vaccinations, heartworm and feline leukemia prevention, laboratory work and limited sick call. Call 703-784-2770 for appointments, over-the-counter purchases, current services and hours.

Published hours are generally 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Wednesday, with a closure on the last working day of the month for inventory. Confirm clinic days before visiting.
