It’s likely that employment will change when a move occurs, especially for military spouses. Albany has a diverse economic base. A variety of industries enjoy the advantages of excellent transportation, excess water capacity, favorable utility service, and an abundant quality work force. Albany is centrally located with such services as fine restaurants, shopping areas, motels and car dealerships. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Albany has an unemployment rate of 3.4% as of April, 2024. The Georgia state unemployment rate is 3.1%, also as of April, 2024.
Marines, spouses, and eligible family members are encouraged to take advantage of the Family Member Employment Assistance Program. This program can assist in job searches, resume writing, interview skills, and more. Employment Readiness will provide job search training, but it's not a job placement service. A resource center containing computers are available for preparing letters and resumes. FMEAP provides individual screening and limited referrals for job vacancies. The program maintains a job bank of current, unique, and ongoing employment opportunities.
Looking for a position with MCCS? The Non Appropriated Fund program provides available jobs on military installations. These jobs can be viewed at the MCCS office on base (Bldg 3600) or on the MCCS website.

The Transition Readiness Program (TRP) provides resources and assistance to enable all separating service members and their families to make a successful transition from military to civilian life. The mandatory 5 day seminar is designed to assist the transitioning service member with the tools needed to become a productive citizen. Different aspects of the seminar include VA Benefits, Department of Labor (DOL) workshop that includes resume writing, job search, and interview skills in addition to other useful information. Marine Corps Tuition Assistance. The Marine Corps Tuition Assistance Program provides financial assistance for voluntary off-duty education programs in support of a Marine's professional and personal development goals. Marines can receive a maximum of $4,500 per fiscal year for 100 percent of tuition costs, or up to $250 per semester hour. For more information call 229-639-5426.
The state of Georgia has developed tuition assistance programs for a college education from their state lottery income. Active duty military and dependents may be eligible for the HOPE grant and Zell Miller Scholarship. Georgia's Zell Miller Scholarship is available to Georgia residents who have demonstrated academic achievement. The scholarship provides money to assist students with the educational costs of attending a Zell Miller Scholarship eligible college located in Georgia. Georgia residency requirements are waived for all active duty service members.
