Youth Employment Assistance is available for Teens of Active Duty and Retired Service Members. FFSC offers:

• Resume assistance- Let us guide you on how to write your first resume or maybe you have one and it needs a little critiquing, we are here to help!

Child and Youth Programs

CNRSW Child & Youth Programs (CYP) operates eight area recreation centers, in or near military family housing. In addition, CYP offers a wide variety of recreation programs for children ages three to seventeen, including open recreation, field trips, teen programs, youth sports, and special events, as well as the programs listed below.

• Before and After School Program - This program is designed to meet the needs of school-aged youth (five to twelve years) in the hours before and after school. Organized and supervised activities are conducted at specific times before and after regular school hours.
   
• Day Camp / Intercession - This program is offered for youth between the ages of five and twelve and is conducted during school holidays and summer vacation/intercession periods. Day camp activities include arts and crafts, sports, games, swimming, field trips, outdoor recreation, cultural programs and special events.

• Youth Sports - A calendar of youth sports events and information on how to participate, please visit the Youth Sports website.

Due to COVID-19, Youth Sports is currently closed.

Eligibility

Eligible patrons include children of active duty military, reservists on active duty, and DoD civilian personnel (appropriated funds (APF), non-appropriated funds (NAF), or DoD contractors).

Fees

A sliding scale is used to determine parent fees based on total family income. Fees are set by the Department of Defense and are intended to make care accessible to all families.

Armed Services YMCA

The ASYMCA offers a variety of programs for military children including: summer camps, Military Children's Fair, teen programs, Kids Zone Parties, late-night recreational activities, after-school enrichment, Chess/game tournaments, Pre-school on Wheels, Healthy Kids Day, Kids In Action, support groups for siblings of Special Needs Children, Kids Olympics, Sign Language Classes, and Y on Wheels.

Child & Youth Programs operate eight housing area community centers and offer a wide variety of recreation programs for children ages five (enrolled in Kindergarten or first grade) to eighteen. Some of these programs include open recreation, contract classes, field trips, teen programming, and special events, and more! Youth Sponsorship (grades 3-12) provides access to positive peer groups and social activities, helping military children feel connected at their new duty station. If interested in connecting your child with a local youth sponsor, visit the Youth Sponsorship website.

The School Liaison Officer’s primary function is to serve as a conduit between parents, educators and the command so that military-connected children experience a seamless transition during the transfer between schools. Most military children move up to nine times in their PreK-12th grade years and consistency and retention of educational goals is a major focus for families when planning to PCS. The School Liaison Officers can offer information on area schools and help facilitate communication between the military family on matters relating to regional public and private schools as well as home school and alternative modes of education.

The School Liaison Officer provides information and resources for military families on internal organizations including, but not limited to, Fleet & Family Support Programs (FFSP), Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP), Child & Youth Program (CYP) activities as well as some external organizations, such as but not limited to, the Armed Services YMCA, Military Family Collaborative, and Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. They also serve as a subject matter expert in education-related issues such as the Interstate Compact for Military Children, Department of Education, local school districts and other education related organizations.

San Diego County has 42 independent school districts. There are 9 Installation School Liaison Officers in Navy Region Southwest; 4 specifically serving the San Diego Metro area. Each school district offers unique options for students in PreK-12th grade. Enrollment is based on the residence address of the family. 

The School Liaisons can:
• Answer questions about school enrollment options
• Provide information about local schools and boundaries
• Assist with inbound/outbound school transfers
• Help you understand and navigate the special education process
• Provide resources for college readiness
• Assist with agency referrals

MWR Youth Sports is a great introduction to sports, where everyone plays and competes for FUN! The goal at the Navy Youth Sports experience is to teach the enjoyment of playing on a team as a character building activity without the pressure of a highly competitive program. They strive for participation, physical fitness, fair play, positive sportsmanship, and game skills. Sports offered include: basketball, indoor soccer, tee-ball, softball, tennis, flag football, cheerleading and more!

The Religious Ministries Department, Naval Base San Diego (NBSD), seeks to provide opportunities for worship, prayer, education, and religious and spiritual development for personnel from a diverse range of faith backgrounds across a broad spectrum of personal experience. Several free youth programs, including religious education, baptisms, and counseling for youth of all religious backgrounds are available.
