Much of the employment in the local Dahlgren community centers around Department of Defense contractors who provide engineering, program management, system engineering, software development, computer and administrative support to the Naval Surface Warfare Division. The Fleet and Family Support Center's Transition Assistance Program (TAP) helps better prepare service members transitioning out of the military into the civilian world. The program coordinates the Transition GPS (Goals, Plans, Success) workshop intended to provide guidance and assistance for future success. The transition staff facilitate capstones as well an array of other career focused classes. TAP is open to military members who are separating or retiring as well as spouses.
