Resources are available to help you understand and manage your finances, including one-on-one financial counseling to assist you and your family with financial readiness. Services are designed to focus on money management issues throughout your active-duty lifecycle and into retirement. The cost of living in the off-base community varies depending on the exchange rate (between the U.S. dollar and the Korean won). Rent can range from $550 per month for a one-bedroom apartment up to $1,500 to $2,000-plus for a four-bedroom apartment. Although Cost of Living Allowance, or COLA, is provided, the amount depends on marital status, number of dependents and other factors.
The average cost for temporary lodging is $60 to $120 per night off base and $63 to $77 per night on base.
Persons residing off base can expect to pay an average of $150 to $300 per month for electricity. This may substantially change, depending on if the air conditioner or dryer are in use. Water may be approximately $50 per month, trash pick-up $4 to $6 per month and home heating oil $3.9 to $4 per gallon. The prices listed including heating oil may vary depending on individual circumstances, exchange rate and/or market conditions.
