Temporary Housing

There are 57 temporary lodging facilities with 18 pet-friendly TLF units at Royal Air Force Mildenhall. The TLFs are either one or two-bedrooms, equipped for families of up to seven and include a modern kitchen with stove/oven, microwave, cooking and eating utensils, Cable channels and Smart TV, and a laundry room within the room or building. Portable cribs and high chairs are also available.

All standard rooms, referred to as visitors quarters, are equipped with a bathroom, full or queen bed, desk, wardrobe, cable TV, small refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot.

Eligibility/Orders

Lodging is open to all Department of Defense card holders. If you are traveling on orders (temporary travel duty and PCS) you are considered priority one guest. If you are not on orders (Space-A or on permissive TDY) you are considered a priority two guest. Space-A is open to all DOD ID card holders.

Availability

If you are on orders and there is no available lodging at the Gateway Inn, you will have the option to procure your own off-base accommodation.  Gateway Inn team can provide a list of local hotels that offer discounted rates for you.

Reservations

Priority one reservations can be made up to one year prior to your arrival. Space-A reservations can be made in advance depending on peak season, call the reservation desk for more details. Reservations can also be requested via email.

Check-in and Checkout

Check-in at Gateway Inn is at 2 p.m. If guests will be arriving late, please call and arrange the details ahead of time with Gateway Inn. Credit card information is required to hold a reservation. All reservations not guaranteed with a credit card will be canceled at 6 p.m. Checkouts are required no later than 11 a.m.

Maximum Length of Stay

If you are PCSing into Royal Air Force Mildenhall, you are authorized up to 30 days of stay in lodging. If you require more than 30 days, you will become category 2 after your initial 30 day reservation, and you must fill out an extension request. Please note that even though you are authorized up to 30 days, the Housing Office and Finance teams will determine how many days are reimbursable on your travel voucher.

Locations

VQ’s are located in buildings 237, 238, 481 and 464. TLF family units on Royal Air Force Mildenhall are located in buildings 104 and 105.

Pet Facilities

Pet TLF's are available on a first-come, first-serve basis for guests traveling with a maximum of two cats or dogs. The cost of the pet-friendly rooms is an additional $10.00 per night, which is not reimbursable. Pets are considered space-available guests. If you have pets and a pet-friendly unit is not available, you will have to make arrangements for your pet at a local kennel so you can be housed in a VQ or TLF.

Arrange your lodging prior to your arrival and confirm what time you can check in to your room. Reservations can be made in advance without a copy of PCS orders. If the Gateway Inn is full, lodging may be available at the Liberty Lodge, Royal Air Force Lakenheath, call commercial 011-44-1638-546700 or DSN 314-226-6700.  Royal Air Force Lakenheath is a neighboring U.S. Air Force base about 15 minutes away from Royal Air Force Mildenhall.

If you are bringing pets please consider that you may need to pay out of pocket expenses (from 10 pounds a day) for your pets to be in a kennel or cattery off base while you are in temporary accommodation, or you could request a fully furnished short-term let through the Housing Office.
