Each installation provides information about the types of schools and programs offered on or near your installation for your child. Learn about the types of programs, guidelines and requirements for each school. Whether you choose to send your child to a Department of Defense School, a private school or public school, your installation can help you explore all of your options to make the right decision for you and your child.
If you are relocating with children, choosing a school may be the determining factor when selecting a community in which to live. In each of the local counties on the Eastern Shore, there are kindergarten through 12th grade school systems (public and independent) that meet the needs of children. There are also preschool and nursery schools for those not yet in the primary and secondary schools.
SCSC Wallops Island does not have a DODDS School, however, there are a number of excellent public and private schools in the local area for kindergarten through Grade 12.
SCSC family housing children attend various schools in the Accomack County Public Schools system. School bus service is provided for the students to Kegotank Elementary School, Arcadia Middle School and Arcadia High School. On a case-by-case basis, attendance at other Accomack County schools can be considered. For further information call the Accomack County School Board. Below are a few other local school options.

The Accomack County (Va.) Public School system consists of five elementary schools, three middle schools, three high schools, two vocational-technical centers, and one combined K-12 school on Tangier Island. It provides college preparation, conventional education, special education, a gifted-and-talented program, and an advanced-placement program.
The Northampton County (Va.) Public School system consists of two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. It provides college preparation, vocational-technical education, special education, a gifted-and-talented program, and an advanced-placement program.
The Worcester County (Md.) School System consists of five elementary schools, three middle schools, one intermediate school, three high schools, one technical high school, and Cedar Chapel Special School, a school for children with moderate to severe disabilities. The school system offers a full range of services for basic skills mastery, college preparation, vocational-technical training, and programs for gifted and special-education students.
The Somerset County (Md.) Public School system consists of five elementary schools, one intermediate school, two high schools, and a vocational-technical school. It provides services to meet the needs for basic skills, college preparation, vocational education and programs for gifted and special-education students.
Independent Schools
There are several independent schools available in the local area. The independent schools located nearest to SCSC family housing are Broadwater Academy, Exmore, Va., Holly Grove Christian School, Westover, Md., and Worcester Preparatory School, Berlin, Md.
