When planning for a move with the military, you might consider moving into government housing. Government housing is owned and maintained by the Department of Defense and is typically on the installation. Eligibility and availability for this type of housing may vary by service member, family size and installation. There is a small Navy Exchange aboard Wallops Island. The nearest Military Medical Treatment Facility is located in Norfolk, Va., which is approximately two and a half hours away. There are a number of local civilian medical facilities and hospitals in the immediate area that accept TRICARE.
Application
In order to apply for family housing on Wallops Island, you will need to submit an application for assignment to housing (DD Form 1746). In addition, you will need to supply a copy of your permanent change of station orders and Navy Personnel Command Form 1070/602 (record of emergency data/dependency application, known as Page 2). Your application package can be forwarded to the Housing Office via fax to 757-824-5382 or electronically via email to WallopsIsland_Housing@navy.mil. Pets
There is a two pet per household limit in military family housing aboard Wallops Island. Pets are defined as domesticated animals such as dogs, cats and birds. No reptiles or other animals not normally considered household pets are authorized.
