School of Choice
School Districts in Michigan have the opportunity to participate in School of Choice. This allows parents to cross local district boundaries without having to get a release from their home district. Local school boards vote every year on whether to allow children from other districts to participate. This option comes with restrictions--parents who choose to go out of district must provide transportation and school athletes must follow the Michigan High School Athletics Association.
