Defense Service Network (DSN) Dialing Instructions
The DSN is the provider of long-distance communications service for the Department of Defense (DoD). Every installation has a special DSN number and the numbers vary by world-wide location. In order to place a call using DSN, the caller must be using a military phone on an installation. Cell phones cannot dial DSN numbers. When dialing a DSN number from a United States installation to another United States installation, it is unnecessary to dial the DSN 312 area code. When dialing a DSN number to/from overseas locations, the DSN area code must be included. The operator can be reached at commercial (719) 567-1110. The Detroit Arsenal Tank Plant, built in 1940, was the first manufacturing plant to mass produce tanks in the United States. The tank plant closed in 1996. The adjacent Detroit Army Arsenal is home to the United States Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command and the Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center. The U.S. Army Garrison-Detroit Arsenal was established in 1971 as an adjunct to the 28th Artillery Group, designated the U.S. Army Support Detachment, located on Selfridge Air National Guard Base. Under the operational control of the then newly-activated Detachment 1, the primary mission of the Support Detachment was to manage and maintain base housing and provide morale support activities. The Garrison continued to provide services at Selfridge ANGB until 2005 when Base Realignment and Closure Law mandated its move to the Detroit Arsenal.

Located 20 miles north of the Detroit Arsenal is the Selfridge Air National Guard Base, where service members and their families can enjoy shopping at the AAFES BX/PX, the Commissary and Class Six stores. The installation is the home to many National Guard and Reserve units. The military clothing store, TRICARE services, golf course, Mulligan's Restaurant, Retiree Affairs Office, Base Chapel, thrift store and Central Macomb Community Credit Union bring many service members and their families to Selfridge. Heading Southwest in the airport complex, proceed to John D Dingell Drive/World Gateway Place. Travel 1.3 miles then bear right onto William D. Rogell Drive. Take William D. Rogell Drive for 0.6 miles to Interstate 94 East. From the exit ramp, merge onto I-94 East towards Detroit. Follow I-94 East for 16.6 miles. Take Exit 216A and merge onto I-75 North. Follow I-75 North for 8.4 miles. Take Exit 61 and merge onto I-696 East toward Port Huron. Follow I-696 East for 4.7 miles to Exit 22, Mound Road. Take Exit 22 north for approximately one mile. The main entrance to the Detroit Arsenal will be on your right headed north. 6501 E. Eleven Mile Road. Stop at the guard shack to show your identification.

Approximate distance is 48.2 miles, about 50 minutes in normal traffic under normal weather conditions.
Heading Southwest within the airport complex, proceed to John D Dingell Drive/World Gateway Place. Travel 1.3 miles then bear right onto William D. Rogell Drive. Take William D. Rogell Drive for 0.6 miles to I-94 East. From the exit ramp, merge onto Interstate 94 East towards Detroit. Follow I-94 East for 40.8 miles toward Port Huron, passing the towns of Detroit, Roseville and Mount Clemens. Take Exit 240A for Selfridge ANGB. Follow the exit ramp curve for half a mile. Turn right onto Rosso Highway/Hall Road and travel 1.1 miles, passing the runway on the right. Bear right at the fork in the road and proceed to stop sign. Make a right at the stop sign. You are now at the main gate.
Individuals Arriving via Privately-Owned Vehicle
If you are driving to the Metro Detroit area and wish to come to the Detroit Arsenal in Warren, you may access it from all the major freeways:
The vehicle driver must be in possession of an active military ID, a valid driver's license, valid vehicle registration and valid proof of insurance to access Selfridge ANGB. Passengers in the vehicle will be required to provide a valid picture ID. Those who have a military ID, but cannot produce valid registration, license and proof of insurance may be allowed on the installation, but without their vehicle. All passengers at both installations must also have ID to enter the base. Temporary ID cards can be obtained at the Visitor's Center located at the guard gate location. Visitors must pass a background clearance, have valid ID with a real ID marking and proof of insurance/registration if driving on to the installation.
There is no shuttle service available inside the Detroit Arsenal. Selfridge Air National Guard Base has no shuttle service on post. Transportation is by private owned vehicle (POV).
