Youth Sponsorship and Newcomers Program
Welcome to Brussels! USAG Benelux - Brussels CYS Services Youth Sponsorship program is designed to facilitate the integration of children of members of the armed forces and civil service into and out of the Brussels Community. All youth between the ages of six and 19 years may apply for a youth sponsor prior to their arrival. Our goal is to help ease the transition process for children in grades K-12 by providing them information on schools and great activities for youth in the area.
We are always looking for 4-5 dedicated volunteer youth to help out. Volunteers should be in grades 3-12. Your job? Writing letters to new students moving here to Brussels and who are looking for a sponsor/friend before they arrive, meeting them once they arrive, and going on a free field trip in the local area once in a while. During the summer, there is also an opportunity to participate in one or two fun events to meet the newcomers. Training will be offered throughout the year to youth volunteers who are interested. Community and volunteer hours will be awarded for help with this project.

School Liaison Services
School Support Services - Connecting Families, Schools & Communities.
School Support Services offers support to families by building relationships and facilitating communication among the Command, Army Families and the local school community. In addition School Support Services informs and assist parents with school transition and deployment challenges by offering information, workshops and resources.
As part of School Support Services, the driving force for student success is the School Liaison Officer (SLO) that serves as the “link” between the Army, families, schools, the community and resources. The SLO’s support is threefold by assisting the student 1) prior to their arrival with information and obtaining a youth sponsor 2) by assisting the student while at the installation and 3) assisting when they are preparing to depart. The SLO can provide contact information for the Brussels American School, local Belgian schools and the POC for homeschooling. The SLO works to ease the transition of Brussels youth both in and out of the community. The SLO also provides information about college and other post-secondary opportunities, scholarship resources and college preparation materials.
