It’s likely that employment will change when a move occurs, especially for military spouses. The information below will provide you with employment assistance information and resources available such as SECO, MyCAA and MSEP Portals.
Finding employment while stationed at Yokota Air Base can be a challenging experience, especially if you are relocating from the United States, where jobs are easier to obtain within the community. Family members interested in finding employment should visit the Military and Family Readiness Center, as soon as possible upon arrival at Yokota AB, for assistance with resume writing, employment search and various federal employment workshops.
Job opportunities are available in different venues such as Civil service (federally funded positions serviced by the Civilian Personnel Office), contract positions (contractors paid by the government or a government-affiliated agency and considered private practitioners like the Army and Air Force Exchange Service), Non-Appropriated Fund positions, teaching positions at Department of Defense schools and English teaching positions from off-base institutions, etc…
Classes at the M&FRC such as resume writing, building a career portfolio and interviewing skills serve to equip you with the tools to succeed in your job search endeavor. Additionally, the M&FRC offers a Tips on Teaching English class to enhance your skills for teaching positions on the local economy.
Paid employment opportunities do exist for those who are well-prepared, persistent, flexible and creative; however, these positions are limited in quantity. In addition, spouses without U.S. citizenship may not be eligible for some job opportunities.
Individual resumes, interview classes and job search appointments can by scheduled by calling the M&FRC at DSN 225-8725 or commercial 042-552-2510 ext. 5-8725.
For job-hunting purposes, be sure to hand carry all employment records and documents, resumes, SF 171, SF 50, transcripts, certifications and licenses or have digital copies secured.
If possible, before undergoing a permanent chance of station to Yokota Air Base, be sure to have a working resume on hand. If you need assistance, visit your local Military and Family Readiness Center for assistance, or call them at DSN 315-225-8725 or commercial 045-552-2510 ext. 5-8725.
The Transition Assistance Program (TAP) offered at the Military and Family Readiness Center is designed to help separating or retiring service members and their family members adjust to life outside the military. TAP is a congressionally mandated program and per regulatory requirements, this process should be initiated no later than 18 to 24 months from your separation or retirement date. Mandatory items include an initial counseling appointment, a pre-separation checklist (DD Form 2648) and an individualized TAP review called Capstone (customized through the checklist, DD Form 2648). Mandatory workshops, seminars and individual discussion sessions are available, in addition to the 2-Day Tracks.
Please call DSN 315-225-8725 or commercial 042-552-2510 ext. 5-8725 to register for an appointment, or email us at 374fssfsfr@us.af.mil for more information.
The Volunteer Resource Program assists in recruitment, training and recognition of installation volunteers. Yokota Air Base promotes a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for both active-duty military and family members throughout the installation. Volunteering is not only an opportunity to share your talents with the community, but can also be a great step toward seeking permanent employment while keeping your skills sharp.
In addition to opportunities through the VRP, the American Red Cross provides volunteer opportunities and training. American Red Cross volunteers assist in the medical clinic, provide help during family emergencies, teach and learn life saving skills, work on special projects, assist in office operations, and serve as volunteer leadership. You can call the Yokota American Red Cross at DSN 315-225-7522 or 011-81-42-507-7522.
For any questions or concerns regarding volunteering, please call the Yokota Military and Family Readiness Center (M&FRC) at DSN 315-225-8725 or 011-81-42-552-2510 / 58725.

Off-base overseas employment opportunities are limited due to Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) restrictions and lack of local job opportunities in the private civilian sector.
Employment opportunities are also limited at Yokota Air Base. Individuals must have a Social Security Number (SSN) for employment with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, civilian personnel and some Force Support Squadron positions.
Prior to arrival in Japan, spouses and family members may visit USA jobs or the Non-Appropriated Fund Human Resources Office website for information about job opportunities at Yokota AB.
