When you arrive at your new installation, you’ll need to follow installation-specific procedures. Each installation and service handles in-processing differently. Here, you can find installation-specific guidelines and a list of documents to bring with you when checking- in. Reach out to the contacts provided if you have specific questions.
Military
To in-process Fort Jackson, all permanent party Soldiers are to report to Room 200, 5450 Strom Thurmond Boulevard, during the hours of operation of 0730-1700, Monday thru Friday. (NOTE: The in-processing office is closed on federal holidays and the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month from 1:30 p.m.- 5 p.m.).
Soldiers In-Processing with an Approved Transition Administrative Absence (PTDY) Authorization: Soldiers with an approved administrative absence for house hunting must visit the supporting Army Housing Office before deciding to rent, lease, or purchase housing.
NOTE: Soldiers are not authorized to have administrative absences that takes he/she pass their report date. Failure to do so results in Soldier being charged leave for the entire period.
In-Processing After Hours: All Permanent Party Soldiers arriving at Fort Jackson, regardless of rank, must report to their unit of assignment or contact their sponsor when reporting after duty hours at 1700 (Monday-Friday), and on weekends/federal holidays. Newly arriving Permanent Party Soldiers without sponsor and assignment orders not reflecting unit of assignment, must report to the Front Desk as the IHG/Fort Jackson Inn, 7550 Benning Road, to end their PCS or administrative absence.
The Soldier will report to Building 5450 Strom Thurmond Boulevard, Room 200 (2nd Floor) at 0800 on the next duty day to begin in-processing. Upon checking-in to Room 200, Soldiers will be provided with the time and location of Post Newcomer Orientation.
Soldiers must bring the following forms to in-process at Fort Jackson South Carolina:
All permanent party Soldiers assigned to Fort Jackson will process through the OSIP Center. In-processing Soldiers will NOT report to their gaining command until the completion of the OSIP Center. The OSIP Center consists of five working days, and on the sixth day the Soldier will report to their gaining command for further processing.
Civilians
Incoming Department of Army Civilians should report to the Civilian Personnel Advisory Center located at 5450 Strom Thurmond Blvd Room 229 on date provided by CPAC, 803- 751-3219.
Make sure to bring your US Passport, Birth Certificate or Certification of Naturalization paperwork with you to in-processing.
US Citizenship is a requirement for all Appropriated Fund federal employment, Army Community Service is located at 9810 Lee Road and can help you and your family get settled in. Please call ACS for more information at 803-751-5256.
Uniform Policy
All Soldiers must be in uniform to in-process. (Exception: A Soldier whose duty uniform is civilian clothes may in-process with civilian clothes). The duty uniform at Fort Jackson, South Carolina is Army Combat Uniform's and Operational Camouflage Patterns. Be sure you have enough uniforms with you to begin duty after in-processing.
The sponsor's duty during in-processing is to provide accurate, timely information and other support needed to minimize problems with relocating. To get the benefits of the Sponsorship Program Soldiers must complete request using ACT.
Many families have important papers and documents that they cannot afford to lose. These papers are difficult to replace. Do not pack these items in your household goods shipment. Hand carry the following list of items: passports; immunization records; official birth, marriage, divorce, adoption or death certificates; wills; power of attorney; naturalization papers and complete information on citizenship proceedings; tax records and other documents necessary to file taxes; house and property deeds and associated paperwork; military records; bank books; savings bonds and other securities; Social Security cards; car titles and shipping papers; sales receipt for household furniture and other high value items and household shipping inventories; and school records. You will also need your personnel, finance, medical and dental records and other important documents that need to be carried. If you are a spouse and will be seeking employmen, please ensure you have your resume and certifications with you.
Temporary Lodging
Temporary lodging can be arranged through the IHG Army Hotel Fort Jackson, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The hotel is located at the intersection of Marion Ave and Cherboug St. From gate 2, continue on Strom Thurmond Blvd. and make a left turn at the third traffic signal, Marion Ave. Use the right lane at the fork. The hotel is on the right.
From gate 4, make a right turn at Hurtgen Forest Rd., turn left at Tank Hill Parkway, turn right at Marion, turn left at Cherbourg St. and the hotel is on the right. The hotel can be reached at 803-782-9802 or at its website. If you have a pet, please make sure you contact the hotel directly, not through their toll-free number. IHG Army Hotel Fort Jackson facilities are open to military personnel (all ranks/grades), their family members, guests, and retired military and their guests. Arrangements for on-post temporary lodging, as well as referral for off-post temporary lodging, can be obtained from this facility. We recommend that you make hotel reservations well in advance of your arrival. During the PCS season, on-post lodging is often fully booked. If you have reservations, please make sure you keep your confirmation number with you, as this is your proof of reservation. Without your reservation number, your room may be assigned to someone else.
If you are married en route to a new assignment, complete a DA Form 5960 with your gaining command. Have your S-1 office submit the form with your marriage certificate to iPerms and to the finance office on a transmittal letter. Take a copy of your form and marriage certificate with you to in-process finance. This will expedite your pay adjustment. You and your spouse will also need to obtain a dependent ID card and update your DEERS. Either make an appointment with the ID card office or follow the walk-in instructions. Two forms of ID (spouse) and your marriage certificate will be required to obtain a dependent ID card.
If you get married prior to PCS, go to your unit S1 for instructions on adding your spouse to your records/orders. It’s essential for your PCS orders to reflect that you have a "dependent"; dependents will change your PCS entitlements. The military will not pay travel and/or lodging for your dependents if they do not reflect on your orders.
