Legal assistance is available to you and your family. Below, you’ll find information about claims and installation specific programs and services. If you have questions, reach out to the legal assistance program at your installation.
The Fort Jackson Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, Legal Assistance Office is located at 2600 Lee Road, at the corner of Washington and Lee Road. The office telephone number is 803-751-4287. Legal Assistance hours are 9:00 - 11:15 a.m., and 12:30 - 4:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Thursday hours are 12:30 - 4:00 p.m. only; the office is closed on all federal and training holidays.
Walk-in services during normal business hours include Notary Public services as well as basic Powers of Attorney. Everyone receiving service must have a military ID card.
Consultations with an attorney are offered by appointment only. Due to staffing shortages, appointments are only available to active duty service members and their eligible Family members; however, retirees are eligible for walk-in services listed above.
Examples of services offered by appointment:
Estate Planning such as Wills, Durable Powers of Attorney, Health Care Powers of Attorney, and Living Wills; Military Administrative matters such as OER/NCOER appeals, QMP matters, and FLIPLs; Landlord-Tenant issues; Family Law such as child support, divorce counseling, custody matters; Consumer Law; and SCRA matters.
The Claims Office is located at the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, 2600 Lee Road, Fort Jackson, South Carolina. This office adjudicates tort claims and affirmative claims. Appointments are by request only.
The Army has centralized all household goods claims and incident to service claims at the newly operational Center for Personnel Claims Support (CPCS) at Fort Know. The CPCS may be reached by phone at 502-626-3000 or by email at usarmy.knox.hqda-otjag.mbx.dpcs@mail.mil. The mailing address is US Army CPCS, ATTN: IMKN-CPC, Building 1310, Pike Hall, 50 Third Avenue, Suite 307A, Fort Knox, Kentucky 40121-5230. These types of claims include household goods, POV shipment damage, on-post POV theft or vandalism, on-post quarters damage or theft, and unusual occurrence such as fire, flood, and hurricane.
