If you need emergency assistance, you can expect to get help from your installation, your branch of service resources. There are programs to support you in a variety of situations, including victim assistance, emergencies en route and service-specific relief societies. Below, you’ll find types of assistance, contact information, and detailed procedures and guidance to help you through any tough circumstances that you or your family may face.
The Service to the Armed Forces mission is to provide care and comfort to the service members of the United States Armed Forces and their families. The SAF team supports military families during deployments and emergencies, serves in military and veterans' hospitals, conducts emergency communications and continues supporting our nation's veterans after their service ends. The team also adapts services and creates new programs to meet the needs of today's service members, veterans and their families.
The American Red Cross supports service members, their families, military retirees and Department of War civilians overseas anywhere.

Army Emergency Relief provides immediate, financial support to active-duty soldiers, retirees and their eligible family members facing unforeseen emergency hardships. AER delivers direct assistance to resolve critical, essential needs, including housing costs (rent and mortgage), utilities, food and gasoline. The program covers urgent, unexpected expenses such as emergency travel, vehicle maintenance and vital auto repairs to maintain readiness and family stability. Service members in need of assistance can initiate the process securely at any time. To apply, visit the AER office at 9810 Liberty Division Road, Fort Jackson or go to the official AER website and select "Apply for Assistance" to begin your application.
Before you leave, make sure you have all important papers with you. Do not pack important documents with your household goods. Make sure you have important numbers such as the Emergency Operations Center at 803-751-5166/3983 or DSN 312-734-5166/3983, and, if possible your sponsor's contact information.
