If you need emergency assistance, you can expect to get help from your installation, your branch of service resources. There are programs to support you in a variety of situations, including victim assistance, emergencies en route and service-specific relief societies. Below, you’ll find types of assistance, contact information, and detailed procedures and guidance to help you through any tough circumstances that you or your family may face.
If you have a financial emergency, contact the Military and Family Readiness Center for guidance at 501-987-2667 or apply directly on line at https://afas.org/. The M&FRC is located in the Walters Community Support Center, Building 940, LRAFB. Hours are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except Tuesdays when we close at 2 p.m. The staff at the M&FRC are well versed in the application process and can assist with Air Force Aid applications. If you have a bona fide Red Cross verified emergency which requires you to take emergence leave and you do not have the financial means to do so, the Air Force Aid Society/Army Emergency Relief and Navy/Marine Relief provides emergency financial assistance to individuals and families for airfare, privately-owned vehicle travel expenses, etc., on a case-by-case basis. For Emergency Travel assistance for any branch of service, please contact the American Red Cross at 800-733-2767.
The Relief Societies can also provide emergency financial assistance based on need, through either loans or, when there is a particular hardship, grants.
Categories of financial assistance include, but are not limited to:
Make sure you have all your important papers/documents with you (orders, passports, medical records, etc.). Consider, scanning in all of your documents that you'll be hand carrying and copy to a USB drive. Add the phone numbers for your Commander, Orderly Room, your sponsor and lodging to your cell phone. These numbers can be invaluable in case of an emergency while in transit.
The American Red Cross can help in times of emergency. Quick communications with home about family emergencies is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including verification of death or serious illness of immediate family, birth announcements to fathers deployed overseas, and health and welfare reports. The Military and Family Readiness Center can provide you with on-base and local area information. Contact the Military and Family Readiness Center at 501-987-2667 for referral services.
The Salvation Army is another good source of information and assistance in an emergency. The Little Rock Salvation Army Social Services Department is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 4:00.
