The employment atmosphere in the Montgomery area is steady and growing. Reasonable commuting areas include Prattville, Elmore, Wetumpka, and Millbrook. Montgomery is the capital of Alabama with the majority of state government jobs (9,500 employees) located in this area. The Federal Government is the largest employer in the area due to Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base (12,700 employees). Baptist Health Systems employees over 4,000 employees and the Montgomery Public Schools employ 4,000 employees as well. There is a variety of employment opportunities on the installation and in the local community. Applying for Federal Employment - helps customers apply for federal employment
Employment Board - located within the Military and Family Readiness Center. Hours available 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Employment Fairs - held once a year.
The Transition Assistance Program (TAP) is provided through the Military and Family Readiness Center to assist personnel and family members when they separate from the military. The process begins 18-24 months out for proposed retirement or separation date. Contact the Military and Family Readiness Center's Transition office to stary the mandatory TAP process at 334-953-2353, DSN 312-493-2353.
The Education Services Center provides a multitude of educational services and degree program opportunities from associates through master degree levels for all military personnel, their families, and DOD civilian employees. Contact each institution's financial aid office for assistance.
All family members, including spouses, of active duty Air Force personnel are eligible for the Air Force Aid Society Henry Arnold Scholarship. Scholarship applications are available on line from the Air Force Aid Society.

If coming from another state, you may apply via an interstate claim. Eligibility for unemployment benefits varies from state to state.
