The Air Force Library Program offers resources for airmen, guardians, and their families in all locations and military stages.
Installation libraries play an important role in Air Force and Space Force professional life. They offer technical publications to support job requirements and opportunities for career development. You can earn college degrees and certifications, update promotion packages, prepare for transition or retirement, and more. Many resources are available online through the Air Force website.
Installation libraries also offer community programs such as story times and summer reading programs. There are author and book talks, as well as events to celebrate holidays and Air Force and Space Force heritage events. Most libraries also offer access to computers, internet, and basic office equipment like copiers and faxing services. Programs and services vary by location, so contact your local installation library for more information.
All Defense Department service members and their families can also use the online DOD MWR Libraries. The online libraries provide an array of resources for children and adults. Community libraries located on Maxwell-Gunter provide reading materials and information resources for the base populations. It is our goal to maintain materials of general interest to our customers. We support all education office programs offered by Troy State at Montgomery as well as other colleges and universities. Muir S. Fairchild Research Information Center (MSFRIC)
The Muir S. Fairchild Research Information Center (MSFRIC), located on Maxell, and founded in 1946, is the premier library in the Department of Defense (DOD). It houses well-balanced collections especially strong in the fields of war fighting, aeronautics, Air Force and DOD operations, military sciences, international relations, education, leadership, and management. The Center holds more than 2.6 million items: 530,000 military documents; over 429,000 monographs and bound periodical volumes; 615,000 maps and charts; 150,000 current regulations/manuals; and over 909,000 microforms. The Center also operates a branch library at the US Air Force Senior NCO Academy located at Gunter, Alabama, which provides tailored information collections and services for senior NCO PME. Located in the center of the Chennault Circle, the library was given the memorial name "Fairchild" after the founder and first commander of Air University, Gen Muir S. Fairchild.
