Military and Family Support Center

The Federal Voting Assistance Program – FVAP.gov – ensures service members, their eligible family members and overseas citizens have the tools and resources to register to vote and request an absentee ballot, regardless of their state of residence. The Voting Assistance Guide is a reference guide for everything you need to know about absentee voting in all 50 states, the U.S. territories and the District of Columbia.

Military and Family Support Centers provide information, education and support programs to help balance the demands of military life. Offerings include:

• Deployment support to assist you and your family during all phases of the deployment cycle. Learn more about deployment support.

• Personal and family life education assists with developing knowledge and skills to help you navigate your mobile military life.
• Personal financial readiness assists you and your family in building and maintaining your financial readiness.

• Information and referral can assist you in identifying and clarifying needs and locating and connecting to services and programs available both on and off your installation.

Transition Assistance/Employment Services

The Transition/Employment Team assists with career counseling, individual transition plans, self-assessments, educational opportunities, and resume reviews on a one-on-one basis. A three-day transition seminar, as well as numerous employment workshops are conducted.  Job Fairs are held once a year and host approximately 100 employers.  The Resource Center is equipped with four workstations that enable access to online resources for job searching, military skills conversion, relocation, financial planning, and educational opportunities.

Casualty Assistance Program

Casualty Services is the initial point of contact in the case of the death of a military member or retiree.  The staff assists/advises in the application of all benefits.

Air Force Aid Society 

The AFAS provides emergency financial assistance to active duty and retired military members in the Wichita area. In addition AFAS funds the following community enhancement programs for Air Force families. 

• Give Parents A Break: This program provides funding for monthly child care breaks for active duty Air Force and Space Force families who need a break from the stresses of parenting. Free for families with deployed service members. Families are referred to the program and receive a certificate to participate. Care is provided at the Child Development Center (316-759-4223).
• Bundles for Babies/Great Expectations: This is a class for soon-to-be and new parents. Topics covered include basic parenting skills, budgeting for baby, and car seat safety. Upon completion, AFAS provides a $50 voucher to Air Force and Space Force families to help purchase some of baby's first essentials.
• Child Care for PCS: This program is intended to help relieve some of the stress associated with the PCS move process. AFAS will pay for 20 hours of child care per child in Air Force or Space Force certified Family Child Care Homes (or at the CDC if no FCC homes are available). The timeframe of eligibility for this program is 60 days prior to a PCS through 60 days after arrival at new base.

Family Services

The following services are located in Building 732 in the Airman's Attic. Hours of operation are Mon/Wed/Fri 10 a.m. to  2 p.m. and Tues/Thurs 1 to 5 p.m. The Family Services coordinator can be reached at 316-759-3740.

• Airman's Attic:  Gently used items (household goods, baby goods, small appliances, clothes, toys) are available for free to active duty families E5 and below. Used uniforms in good condition are also available for all ranks. Serviceable donations accepted.
• Loan Closet:  Free, temporary use of household items for Air Force personnel and families. Items include kitchenware, futons, irons, ironing boards, tables, folding chairs, tool kits, and vacuum cleaners.  Punch bowls and coffee pots are also available to check out for special events or squadron parties.
• Layette Program:  Free layettes to E-5s and below upon the birth of a new child.  The layettes include new, useful baby items and are made possible through the generosity of the Officers Spouse Club, TROWC, Enlisted Spouse Club, First Sergeants, and Air Force Sergeants Association.  To receive a layette, the military member must enroll the newborn in DEERS at the Military Personnel Flight at 316-759-3737 and then present the enrollment verification to the Family Services Coordinator. 
• Girl Meets Dress: Free-to-borrow dresses for special occasions. Dresses should be dry-cleaned prior to return.
• Teddy Bear Program:  A free teddy bear to military family members, ages 12 and under, who are seriously ill or in the hospital.  Commanders, First Sergeants or a squadron member may come in and pick up the free teddy bear.  Military bears are also available for children whose military parent has passed away while on active duty. Contact the M&FRC at 316-759-6020 to coordinate pick-up.

Outreach Programs

Food Pantry - We can provide food vouchers to the commissary on an emergency basis. Open to all personnel assigned to McConnell AFB and their family members.

Volunteer Resource Program

The VRP program is the focal point for volunteers.  The M&FRC acts as a clearinghouse for those interested in volunteering and maintains a listing of volunteer opportunities both on and off base.  For McConnell volunteers, a Volunteer Incentive Program (McVIP) is a graduated benefit system based on monthly volunteer hours donated to organizations on base.
