The TAP workshop is mandatory for all separating or retiring active duty service members who have completed their first 180 days or more of continuous duty, all reserve component service members that have served 180 days or more of continuous active duty, and all eligible family members. Initial counseling is conducted through the command career counselor for NAS Whiting Field installation service members, and Fleet and Family Support Center for all tenant command service members 24-18 months prior to retirement, or 18-12 months prior to separation.
TAP curriculum provides information on the transition process, financial preparedness after separation, VA benefits, Department of Labor briefing on employment readiness, a reserve benefits briefing, as well as optional briefs on Tricare, Career Source Escarosa, Skillbridge and Survivor Benefits.
TAP workshops are held on a regular basis and space is limited. To register for the three-day core TAP workshop or one of the Two-Day Track courses please contact the transition staff at your Fleet and Family Support Center at 850-623-7177.
TAP
The Transition Assistance Program (TAP) provides the information, skills and knowledge necessary for a successful transition from military to civilian life.
TAP starts no later than 365 days prior to transition for those who are separating or retiring. It is recommended retirees begin the transition process at least two years prior to retirement. In the event of an unanticipated separation or retirement, or a member of the reserve component is demobilized within less than 365 days, TAP must begin as soon as possible within the remaining period of service.
For more information on TAP, or to get the process started, see your Command Career Counselor or call Fleet and Family Support Center.
