Administrative Services

VCAS provides a wide array of services to the community including licensing, missing pets, cremation, field and other administrative services. They are staffed 24 hours a day to respond to field emergencies.

Phones are not staffed 24 hours a day. If you have reached them outside of our normal business hours, please leave a detailed message.

Naval Base Ventura County personnel may contact the Veterinary Clinic at Port Hueneme, Building 19, phone: 805-982-3271 and DSN: 312-551-3271 for information. The clinics hours vary due to mission priority. 

It can be easy to forget about pets in the course of preparing for and making a move, but it always pays to plan ahead.

Above all, remember to do the following:

• Make arrangements for transportation well in advance.
• Find out about any rules or regulations regarding pets in your new home and community. Many states have their own unique laws concerning pets, and you may need extra documentation in some cases.
• Have your pet checked over by a veterinarian before you move, and get all necessary health records and certificates. Your pet's health certificate should include a complete description of the pet, a list of all inoculations, and a statement that it is free from infectious diseases. The U.S. Army Vet located onboard the Port Hueneme site can issue health certificates for interstate and overseas travel. Health certificates are required for all animals shipped by government or commercial transportation.
• Carry health and rabies certificates with you.
• Ask about vaccinations needed to travel to foreign countries.
• Discuss medication options with your veterinarian if your pet is excitable or prone to motion sickness when traveling.
• Attach an ID tag to your pet's collar. The tag should include the pet's name, your name and destination address, and the name and address of a person to contact in case you can't be reached. There are also other ways of identifying your pet, i.e. leg bands, brands (for horses), tattoos, color photos, or registration papers. The pet's health certificate can be used for identification.
• Transport your pet by air, with the pet either accompanying you or traveling as air freight, or in your personal motor vehicle.
• Check with the airline for the type and size of kennel needed for overseas shipment of pets.

No pet quarantine exists for this area.

There are no pet boarding or kennel facilities at Naval Base Ventura County.

Civilian Veterinary Services: Consult the internet and/or the local humane society for the names of veterinarians in your area.

Honesty is always the best policy. Sneaking your pet into "no-pets allowed" residences is risky.

No more than two pets are permitted aboard Port Hueneme and Point Mugu. However Camarillo, Catalina Heights, housing is a no pet community. Pit bulls (American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier), Rottweilers, any wolf hybrid or any mix of the aforementioned breeds are not permitted in any family housing or aboard the base.

Pets must be under the control of their owners at all times. When outside the fenced yard, pets must be controlled on a leash. Yards are to be cleaned daily of pet waste and immediately on the spot when exercising pets outside of the resident's fenced yard.
