When you arrive at your new installation, you’ll need to follow installation-specific procedures. Each installation and service handles in-processing differently. Here, you can find installation-specific guidelines and a list of documents to bring with you when checking- in. Reach out to the contacts provided if you have specific questions.
All Military members assigned to 423rd Air Base Group (ABG) and 501st Combat Support Wing (CSW) will inprocess at the Commander's Support Staff (CSS) on RAF Alconbury, in building 671. All military members assigned to Royal Air Force (RAF) Molesworth will inprocess with their respective CSS in Building 412 at RAF Molesworth.
It is important to note that there is no base ground transportation to and from commercial airports. Once your travel plans are known it is your responsibility to contact your sponsor with your flight information, provide them a copy of your orders and telephone contacts. Remember that when you are traveling overnight you will depart the U.S. on one day and arrive in the U.K. the next day.
The main airport is London Heathrow Airport. Discuss your travel details with your sponsor who will make the necessary courier arrangements. You will be responsible for paying the courier, so be sure to discuss the various options with your sponsor. Based on the U.S. or U.K. currency exchange, this expense can easily cost $200 to $400. It is important for you to check with your finance office to determine whether this will be a reimbursable expense.
There is a mandatory newcomers orientation for all Active Duty, Reservists and civilian employees offered twice a month on Thursdays. This orientation provides several of the required briefings for inprocessing, including a mission brief, Sexual Assault Response (SAPR), U.K. customs overview, Fire Prevention and Medical Right Start among many others. Bring your medical records and a copy of your orders to this briefing. Upon arriving, we ask you inprocess in the following order: 1. Sign in to your Unit. 2. Physically visit the Military & Family Readiness Center (M&FRC) on the ground floor of bldg. 671 to sign up for Newcomer's Orientation. 3. Visit Housing and Finance offices within 3 business days of arrival.
Contact the Traffic Management Office at DSN 314-268-3723 if you shipped household goods and provide them with a contact number or email address so that you can be reached when your shipments arrive. Contact Pass and Registration at DSN 314-268-2525 if you shipped a car. This is a required step to acquire your car from customs.
Make sure to submit proper leave requests prior to taking permissive leave for house hunting. A sponsor should be assigned to you by your gaining unit. If you have requested a sponsor but have not been contacted within 30 working days please contact the CSS at your gaining unit (RAF Alconbury or RAF Molesworth).
Temporary Lodging
It is imperative that you make your Brittania Inn lodging reservations as soon as possible. Lodging does have 2 small pet Temporary Living Facilities (TLFs) and 3 large pet TLFs. If you have a pet and this room is not available please check with your sponsor for pet sitting or kennel options in the local area. Lodging reservations can be made by calling the Lodging Office 011-44-1480-82-6000 or DSN 314-268-6000. Credit card confirmation will be required.
Command Sponsorship
It is essential that you discuss with your outprocessing Commander's Support Staff (CSS) the UK visa and passport requirements for entering the United Kingdom. Both of these processes for your family members could be lengthy and should be started as soon as possible. Not attending to this permanent change of station requirement could result in your family members delayed entry to the United Kingdom.
If you get married before you arrive you must register with the DEERS Office and follow all mandatory procedures exactly as you are given them. The military will not pay for travel and housing of your spouse if your spouse/partner is not on your military orders.
