If you’ve ever considered taking your education a step further, you should look to your installation for more information and assistance. They can help you decide if receiving an advanced degree is right for you, tell you which local colleges and classes are offered and find out if you’re eligible for tuition assistance. The Voluntary Education Center, or Installation Education Center, is available to help you put together a plan to advance your education.
Military spouses can also choose to engage with an education and career coach through the DoD’s Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program, or SECO. These coaches can assist them in exploring multiple tools, resources and information to reach their educational goals. Rock Island Arsenal Army Education Center services all military personnel from Bloomington north to the Wisconsin Border in Illinois, and from the Illinois border west to Des Moines in Iowa. We also serve dependents, retirees, and DoD civilians on Rock Island Arsenal. The Army Education Center offers educational counseling, basic skill and education instruction, testing services, and tuition assistance program (ignited). CLEP and DSST testing is available for Soldiers through the National Testing Center located at the Western Illinois University (Quad City campus).
College
The Army Tuition Assistance (TA) program provides financial assistance for voluntary off-duty education programs in support of a Soldiers' professional and personal self-development goals. All Soldiers (officers, warrant officers and enlisted) on active duty, National Guard and Army Reserve are authorized to participate in the TA program. Soldiers can receive TA for up to 16 semester hours per fiscal year. There is a maximum cap of $250 per semester hour -$166.00 per quarter hour. In order to receive TA Soldiers must request and be approved through GoArmyEd at www.goarmyed.com prior to the start date of the course.
