It’s likely that employment will change when a move occurs, especially for military spouses. The information below will provide you with employment assistance information and resources available such as SECO, MyCAA and MSEP Portals.
The Pocono Mountain Region is a vacation resort area. Chief employment opportunities are in service industries that support travel and tourism, namely retail and seasonal employment.
Employment on the Tobyhanna Army Depot is most desired among the local population. It remains to be the region’s largest employer with over 3,000 employees. Sanofi Pasteur is the second largest employer located in Swiftwater, Pennsylvania. The other employment prospects the area offers are Genco Distribution Center, Walmart Distribution Center, local schools/colleges and medical facilities.
On Base Employment Opportunities
The Tobyhanna civilian workforce is made up of government service employees, wage grade employees such as laborers, nonappropriated fund employees such as child care and food service workers and contract employees working for the Department of the Army or tenant organizations in support of the Department of the Army on the installation. Tobyhanna requires 130 job skills to perform missions to include engineers, electronics-mechanics, computer specialists and industrial trade workers.

Job search assistance is offered through the following one-on-one workshops and/or classes:
Individual counseling is provided for assessment, job skills and developing and implementing career goals. Partnerships are developed with local agencies and businesses for career opportunities.
To qualify for unemployment compensation benefits upon relocation or other eligible reasons, a worker must have performed services covered under the Pennsylvania Unemployment Compensation Law and must have worked for an employer who is required by law or elects to pay into the unemployment compensation fund. Unemployment compensation benefits are specific toward federal military or civilian employees, ex-service members, military reservist and National Guard soldiers returning from deployment or a surviving spouse, all of whom have an eligibility criteria requirement they must meet. This can be determined by viewing the state’s unemployment compensation website or by phoning 888-313-7284 for the local unemployment compensation service center.
The Employment Readiness Program Manager can provide information to the following Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) programs offered to military Spouses:
Spouse Education and Career Opportunities (SECO): A program offered to all military Spouses through Military OneSource, which offers employment assistance with exploring portable career options; education, training, financial aid and state occupational license/credential requirements; career readiness to include interview skills, resume building, etc.

Military Spouse Career Advancement Account (MyCAA): A program offered to eligible military Spouses as part of the OSD, Spouse Education and Career Opportunities (SECO) program.
Eligibility restricted to Spouses of active duty E1-E5, W1-W2, and O1-O2 serving on Title 10 orders
Financial assistance limited to $4,000
Financial assistance must be used three years from the start date of the first class
Financial assistance may only be used for an associate degree, occupational license or credential
