There is one K-8 School on the installation which is run by the Las Cruces Public School District. High School students living on the installation are assigned to Organ Mountain High School located in Las Cruces, NM. Las Cruces Public Schools is the second largest district in New Mexico. It encompasses the Villages of La Mesilla and Dona Ana as well as White Sands Missile Range covering the middle third of Dona Ana County.The district has 38 schools: 25 elementary schools (grades K-5), 8 middle schools (grades 6-8) and five high schools (four grades 9-12 and one for 9th graders only). The district also has one training center for special education students and two alternative high schools.
Student enrollment is nearly 25,000 students. Las Cruces Public Schools is the third largest employer in Dona Ana County with more than 3,600 employees, which includes about 2,200 classroom teachers and educational assistants.White Sands Middle School Aerospace Magnet Program
Our cutting-edge program addresses the interest and challenges the energy of the middle school students, while incorporating national standards in math, science and technology. The aerospace program is "activity oriented" to allow students to learn how technology is used in engineering to solve everyday problems. Our goal is to excite and motivate students to use their imaginations and teach them to be creative and innovative, while gaining the skills they need to succeed in the fields of science and engineering.The White Sands Aerospace curriculum provides project-based learning, a hands-on approach--that is exciting and fun for the full-range of students in today's grade 6 - 8 classrooms. It also promotes communication and collaboration by emphasizing a teaming approach in the instructional units. This approach utilizes the strengths of each team member to accomplish the goals of the project, while offering students learning challenges at all ability levels.The math, science, and technology integrated program helps students develop and hone skills of knowledge and skills for success in pre-engineering.
