A PCS or military move can be a challenge, especially if you have a lot of stuff. Breaking down your to-dos into more manageable pieces often helps. Here, you’ll find out how to handle household goods, manage your pet and guidelines on the shipping process.
Your installation household goods/transportation office can provide assistance with understanding your entitlements and shipping your personal property. For information on shipping your vehicle, check out the Personal Property Resources page on MilitaryOneSource.mil, or visit the PCSmyPOV website.
To help customers access moving resources more easily, Move.mil has moved to the Military OneSource website. Now, moving resources from the Defense Personal Property Program and Military OneSource are available on the Military OneSource website.
Visit the Moving Your Personal Property page on MilitaryOneSource.mil for comprehensive moving information, resources and services. Access content from the former Move.mil website, including moving guides and tips, videos and FAQs, entitlement brochures, household goods shipment logistics, DPS log in and more. There are also links for retiring and separating members, specific service branch information and comprehensive relocation assistance.
As soon as you receive your orders, you should begin the process to ship your household goods. The government pays to ship household goods up to certain weight limits which are based on rank and family status. Make a list and take pictures of valuable items before the move. Some items should not be packed, but should be kept in a locked room : treasured items, important documents, items you will need in teh first week.
Upon delivery, service members should inventory all items for damage and to ensure that all items are good based upon shipping documentation. Service members have 180 days to file a claim for lost or damaged items.
The transportation office provides the following services: answer entitlements questions, fix scheduling issues with your transportation service provider, address moving day problems that may arise. Service members and family members can search for the installation's transportation office online at MilitaryINSTALLATIONS or contact Military OneSource for more information. For questions about new living arrangements, please contact the housing office. You can visit homes.mil for more information about available housing on the installation.
Household Goods Weight Allowances
This is a full Joint Travel Regulation (JTR) shipment area. Personnel are authorized to ship their full weight allowance. Should you bring everything you own? This is a personal decision, but the following may help: the size of houses in Belgium varies. As a general rule, older houses tend to have larger rooms, especially the bedrooms, while the newer houses will have much smaller rooms, especially the bedrooms. In the newer houses, if you have a king-size or queen-size bed, it may not fit in the bedroom. If it does, it may be all that fits. Landlords are reluctant to allow waterbeds in their homes and they are completely prohibited in government quarters. We recommend that you place them in a storage. Beds are available on a 90-day loan basis from the Centralized Furnishings Management Office (CFMO), Supply and Services Division, DOL USAG Benelux.
Weight restriction in Belgium
Army, Navy, & Air Force personnel assigned to SHAPE & Brussels, Belgium
(a) Accompanied tours: Full JTR weight allowance for all areas.
(b) Unaccompanied tours: Weight allowance for E-6 single/unaccompanied personnel is limited to HHG transportation of 2,500 lbs. (net) or 25% (net) of the weight allowance in par. U5310-B.2, whichever is greater. This weight includes UB Transportation and is regardless of tour length.
(c) Full JTR weight allowance is authorized for E-7 and above.
(d) Requests for exception may be submitted to the PPPO Installation Transportation Office identified in Special Instructions. Soldiers will attach a copy of their orders to their individual request. Soldier's requests must show that they have confirmed the type of housing they will be assigned at their European PDS. Government quarters in Europe are small, and generally cannot accommodate HHG greater than the administrative weight allows (See Paragraph 5, Furniture Oversized, of General Instructions). Prior to requesting an individual increase to the administrative weight restriction, Soldiers should contact their gaining Garrison's housing office through their sponsor to request information related to the type of housing the community has to offer.
Personnel moving from within USAREUR must file notification forms within 7 days of moving. If any damages are noted when picking up your vehicle notify the Claims Office immediately at DSN 314-423-4868 or commercial 011-32-65444868. The seventy (70) day rule does not apply when filing a POV claim.
