Army Continuing Education System
The Army Continuing Education System is dedicated to improving the combat readiness of the Total Army by planning, resourcing and implementing educational programs and services to support the professional and personal development of quality service members, adult family members and Department of Defense civilians. To this end, we have set ourselves service commitment standards, indicated below in parentheses as maximum customer waiting periods. Group counseling (inprocessing and for units) is designed to give our customers a broad overview of our services, whereas individual counseling is tailored to individual needs, aimed to give customers direction for educational development during in-service periods and also thereafter.
Functional Academic Skills Training designed to assist soldiers in their efforts to improve ASVAB/AFCT test scores, broadens career opportunities in the areas of promotion and job changes (90 days).
Army Personnel Testing which includes the Defense Language Aptitude Battery, the alternate Flight Aptitude Skills Test, and the Defense Language Proficiency Tests, likewise plays a major role in career opportunities of soldiers. Such tests are available weekly throughout the year (APT testing 20 days, APT test results 5 working days).
College enrollments contribute primarily to personal development of soldiers and adult family members as does participation in the CLEP/DANTES/SAT/ACT testing programs, providing our customers opportunities to accelerate progress toward degree completion ("walk in" enrollment 20 minutes, test participation 10 days).
