There are 2 major school districts, Clovis and Portales. The Clovis Municipal School system serves grades Pre-K through 12, with a student body population of approximately 7,765 attending 18 schools in the public school district.
The Portales School District consists of four elementary schools, one junior high school and one high school. There are approximately 2,617 students enrolled in the public school system.

There are two major cities that compose Cannon's Education for youth. Clovis Municipal Schools and the Portales school district.
Clovis Municipal Schools
The Clovis Municipal School system serves grades Pre-K through 12, with a student body population of approximately 7,765 attending 18 schools in one public school district. The high school in Clovis averages a student body population of around 1,700, a freshman campus of around 600, and middle and elementary schools averaging around 300 each. Clovis uses yearly competency testing to assess student progress. Full-day state-funded kindergarten sessions are available at all of the elementary schools. Residency establishes which school a student attends. Clovis provides bus service to anyone living more than one mile from their district school. Hot lunches are provided on a sliding fee basis. Summer school is offered on a by need basis with no fee for elementary students and some fees for high school students. An after-school program is available at some schools on a space available basis. Clovis grading system is 90-100 A, 80-89 B, 70-79 C, 60-69 D, and below 60 is considered failing.
Portales Schools
The Portales School District consists of four elementary schools, one middle school, one junior high school, one high school and one alternative school. There are approximately 2,617 students enrolled in the public school system. Portales uses yearly competency testing to assess student progress. Portales has different grades at different school buildings. Portales has exceptional children programs including special needs, honor/gifted and counseling (elementary included) programs. Portales provides bus service to anyone living more than one mile from the grade school. Hot lunches are provided on a sliding fee basis. Summer School is available for high school and elementary students for no fee within the school district. Before and after school programs are offered for lower grades but at different times of the year (when needed).Portales grading system is 90-100 A, 80-89 B, 70-79 C, 60-69 D, and below 60 is considered failing.
There are several private schools in the Clovis area which have a variety of services and specialties. Campuses included Clovis Christian School (Pre-K -12th grade): Elementary/Middle School 575-935-2279 and High School 575-935-2278. Clovis Nazarene School (Preschool for ages 2-5): 575-762-3990; Maria's Montessori, Inc (Nursery/Preschool-Kindergarten): 575-742-1112.
The Community College of the Air Force, Clovis Community College and Wayland Baptist University offer associate programs for both military and civilians. WBU and Eastern New Mexico University (in Portales, NM) offer baccalaureate and some masters' programs.
