Eligible service members and families may request housing flexibility options from the Housing Office for permanent change of station within the United States. This applies if they have dependents enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program, a spouse employed or enrolled in school or licensing program, or if caring for an immediate family member with a chronic or long-term illness at the beginning of the relocation period (180 days before the report date). Benefits can include early move-in (for space available, not displacements), even if the sponsor has not yet arrived. Also, if there is space available and no adverse effect, dependents may continue to reside in losing station government housing during the covered relocation period. Equitable Basic Allowance for Housing can apply when government housing is not available.
The Housing Early Assistance Tool program allows service members to begin the process of applying for military and privatized housing and to get information about local housing before their permanent change of station to the next duty station. Be sure to find out more about HEAT and available military housing. If you have any questions, please contact the Housing Office at 575-904-5461, 575-904-5462, or 575-904-5465.
