Managing your financial affairs during a permanent change of station move can be challenging. You may be tempted to take advance pay to tackle this challenge, but remember that advances are loans with zero interest and you must pay them back.
Personnel who are relocating (with some exceptions) may apply for an advance of up to two months or more of base pay to help with moving expenses. But be warned: This is not "free money," as payments will be taken out of your pay by finance. Check with the local Airman and Family Readiness Center office to get a budget analysis before you apply for an advance to see if you can afford this additional allotment.
Financial guidance is offered to those experiencing money management difficulties or for those who wish to be in control of their finances. The Creech Airman and Family Readiness Center can work with you to prepare a personalized budget and spending plan. Information and assistance is also available in areas such as military pay and allowances, consumer rip-offs, savings, insurance, investing, car buying, home buying, credit card management and much more.
The overall cost of living in Las Vegas is high. Average rental prices for a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home are around $1,700, but may vary depending on closeness to the base. The average price for a home is around $320,000 for a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home. Car insurance will likely be higher than what you are currently paying as a result of the high number of traffic accidents and uninsured motorists. Monthly electric bills are high in the summer - averaging $200 to $400 or more per month for a typical home.
