The American Red Cross can also help in times of emergency by providing quick communications with home about family emergencies, including verification of death or serious illness or immediate family, birth announcements to fathers deployed overseas, and health and welfare reports resulting from a lack of communication over a long period of time. The American Red Cross offers financial assistance for military personnel and their immediate families in the form of interest-free loans or grants when a loan would place a greater hardship on the family.

They can locate active-duty service members - but they need information. For example, the ship's name, NAS Pensacola, would be "too vague." They also will need date of birth and Social Security number.

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in his name without discrimination.

Services they provide include:

• Serve the homeless by providing food and overnight lodging.　
• Provide educational, counseling and vocational services to homeless and destitute individuals and families for extended periods.
• Address long-term specific issues of youth for whom family care is undesirable or unavailable. Education, counseling, health care and specific training seek to meet the needs of such groups as pregnant teens, emancipated minors, and wards of the juvenile court.
• Address specific health or societal-driven needs of particular populations.

Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society

When you’re having trouble meeting urgent financial needs, Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society may be able to provide an interest-free loan or grant. Through financial counseling, we’ll also help you plan for better financial stability. From everyday bills to unexpected expenses, our caseworkers are ready to help. They understand the unique challenges of military life, and they’re ready to listen and suggest options to bring you needed relief.  Our services are completely confidential. We provide funds to help with a wide range of financial needs.

Common situations include:

• Food, rent/mortgage, utilities, essential home repairs
• Establishing a new residence, including security and utility deposits
• Car expenses, such as repairs and insurance deductibles
• Medical expenses
• Military pay shortage / delayed entitlements
