When planning for a move with the military, you might consider moving into government housing. Government housing is owned and maintained by the Department of War and is typically on the installation. Eligibility and availability for this type of housing may vary by service member, family size and installation. Learn more about the different options, benefits and discounts that may be available to you through government housing.
Privatization
NAS Kingsville does not have government family housing available. However, we do have one Public-Private Venture, “Hunter's Cove.” Both military and civilians share these living quarters. Hunter's Cove offers three and four bedroom units. Hunters Cove is located about 5-10 minutes from the base and is located close to shopping centers; schools and pets are allowed in the PPV housing unit with a few restrictions. The PPV housing development allows two pets (any size, no exotic or vicious breeds). The pet deposit is $250 (refundable) for active duty and $300 for civilians.
Eligibility
All active duty enlisted and officer personnel with accompanying family members are (pre-determined) eligible for housing. Assignment to a housing unit is based on family size and availability of housing units.
Availability
Because of the demand for quarters, generally personnel must be placed on a waiting list for a varying amount of time. While you are awaiting assignment to PPV housing, our Housing Service Center will assist you with information on locating suitable, affordable, temporary housing in the community. Your orders for active duty and/or employment offer letter for DOW civilians will get you started for PPV housing; check in at the Housing Service Center, located on NAS-Kingsville Base, Building 3755. Unaccompanied-Family Housing is also located in the same building. If an immediate housing assignment is needed in a PPV unit, it is possible to establish; just be sure to check through the HSC office before you make any arrangements for PPV off-base housing. In general, the wait times for a PPV unit vary depending on your eligibility requirements. Therefore, it could be a few days or up to a couple of months. Applying in advance, before your orders populate, will help secure your unit for your expected date of arrival and beat the waitlist altogether.
Application
To be placed on the waiting list prior to your arrival at NAS Kingsville, you must fill out a DD Form 1746 (Application for Assignment to PPV Housing). You can also utilize the Housing Early Assistance Tool, or HEAT, which can be found through your current duty station's housing office or online. Navy Housing has developed HEAT to assist service members and their families in obtaining housing information Navy wide. HEAT allows service members, DOW-sponsored civilians, and their families to get the housing process started online at one or more Navy installations before or after they receive their permanent change of station orders.
HEAT is available to any service member at all Navy installations. It creates an easy user experience to connect with your destination. Spouses can use the tool as well, needing only minimal information about their service member.
All you need to get started is:
Note: HEAT does not place you on a wait list and cannot improve your position on a housing wait list. Wait list position is determined by regulations and a verification of your eligibility by Housing personnel. HEAT does allow you to make earlier contact and complete an advance or active application with the assistance of a Housing counselor. HEAT is available to any service member going to a Navy-managed installation. This form will go directly to the duty station where you are arriving. Please follow the link to get started today: https://www.homes.mil/heat/DispatchServlet/HeatEntry.
Additional information will be required once you get into contact with the Housing Service Center: RED Report, Page 2, Record of Emergency Data (Marines/Army) also known as (Dependency Sheet).
Incoming service members may also call the NAS-Kingsville Housing Service Center at 361-516-6498 or email Kingsville_Housing@us.navy.mil, and the staff will forward an electronic welcome packet to you, going over the PPV requirements and some basic information regarding the local Kingsville community.
Unaccompanied Housing houses 54 service members at Building 3755 on Nimitz Ave on the NAS Kingsville Installation and provides permanent party billeting for eligible unaccompanied personnel. Reservations for on-base quarters can be made through UH direct line; call 361-516-6638 or 361-438-6994 after hours.
