Naval Station Norfolk supports the operational readiness of the US Atlantic Fleet, providing facilities and services to enable mission accomplishment. We are committed to safety, security, and continuous improvement in quality of life and quality of service for our Sailors and families.
Child care - There is a lengthy waiting list for childcare centers in the Hampton Roads area. Consider family home care in military housing or civilian childcare options if care is needed immediately. Contact the Mid-Atlantic Region Child Care Resource & Referral Office at 866-628-9232 for information on childcare options and waitlist times. Learn more about Navy Child & Youth Programs here.
Cell phones - The use of cell phones, including in-ear hands-free devices, while driving on base is prohibited.
Motorcycle Safety Training: Naval Station Norfolk requires all active duty personnel who operate motorcycles on or off base, on duty or off duty, and civilian employees operating on base to attend the two-day Basic Rider Course (BRC). Experienced riders who have completed the BRC must take the experienced rider course (ERC) as a refresher every three years. Any sportbike rider must take the military sports bike rider course after completing the BRC. Refresher training is required every 3 years.
Child Safety: Virginia's Child Restraint Device Law (Code of Virginia Article 13 Section 46.2) requires that children riding in motor vehicles be properly restrained in a booster seat until they reach eight years of age. The law requires rear-facing child seats be placed only in the back seat of a vehicle. If the vehicle does not have a back seat, the device may be placed in the front passenger seat, provided the airbag has been deactivated or there is no airbag equipment.
