With certain military moves, you may find yourself looking for housing that’s a little less permanent before making long-term arrangements. There are several temporary housing options that may be right for you. Explore the information about temporary housing facilities including allowances, lodging rates and eligibility.
There are three Navy Lodges (800-NAVY-INN) and seven visitors quarters (877-628-9233) in the Hampton Roads area. Newly reporting personnel are eligible to make reservations in advance, and every effort is made to accommodate them. The Regional Housing Office maintains a list of temporary/short-term options. There are many local hotels and motels that can accommodate military members and families. Be aware that you may have to pay significantly more depending upon the season. Try to make reservations for lodging as early as possible. Pets are not allowed in the VQ. Some of the hotels and motels do not accept pets. The "Pets Welcome" website will help you locate accommodations that accept pets.
There are three options for temporary lodging for transferring service members and their families, visitors quarters, Navy Lodge or local hotels.
Visitors Quarters
There are seven visitors quarters Navy Inns and Suites in the Hampton Roads region. These facilities are available to both single and married service members and offer a variety of rooms including suites, single rooms, rooms with kitchenettes and rooms that are handicap accessible. Navy Lodges
There are three Navy Lodges in the Hampton Roads area, Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, Norfolk Naval Base and Dam Neck Annex. Amenities include kitchenette, free local telephone calls, cable tv, air conditioning, cribs and rollaways and irons/ironing boards. Call 800-NAVY INN in advance to make reservations or make reservations online.
Local Hotels
There are many hotels in the surrounding area. Room rates vary depending upon the hotel, size of the room and time of the year. Visit the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce website for more information on accommodations.
Temporary LodgingThe Navy Lodge provides temporary housing at very reasonable rates. For reservations and contact information, visit the Navy Lodge website, or call 1-800-NAVY-INN (1-800-628-9466).
PCS Travelers please remember:Navy Lodge is the official government lodging when on PCS Orders. PSD requires a CNA (Certificate of Non-Availability) when space is unavailable at Navy Lodge.
Reservations are accepted for all eligible personnel on an as-received basis. We recommend you make advance hotel/motel reservations in order to assure you have a place to stay while seeking permanent housing.
Pets are not allowed in the visitors quarters. Navy Lodges accept pets up to 50 pounds. Before you depart you old duty station, schedule a visit with your veterinarian to update all medications or treatments required and bring a copy of each pet's vaccination record. Carry a health certificate for each animal traveling with you. Bring appropriate food and other supplies and always travel with a pet carrier. When you are at the Navy Lodge, treat the area where you walk as if it were your own yard, and always clean up after your pet, using the bags provided.
