Affordable off-station civilian housing in the Monmouth County area is in short supply, so it is recommended that you wait until on-station housing is available before you move your family here. If you do not wish to wait for Military Family Housing, the Housing Service Center can assist in locating off-station housing, but keep in mind the expenses associated with starting a lease (security deposits, temporary lodging, etc.).
Housing Service Center --The HSC is your contact for any problems you may encounter, including discrimination complaints, tenant-landlord disputes or any questions or problems about off-base housing. The HSC will provide you a list of rentals with corresponding locator maps and give you information regarding the communities in which the rentals are located. All renters should carry renters’ insurance against fire, theft and other damages. The property owner's insurance will cover the property but not the renters’ personal property. Transfer coverage after you arrive. Ask about the availability of a Rental Partnership Program if you are planning to rent.
Rental options
The HSC maintains a wide range of rental listings in the surrounding area. It is recommended that you contact a housing referral specialist to discuss your needs. The price range for rentals varies widely from $1500 for a one-bedroom apartment to $4500 or more for a single-family townhouse or condo with two or three bedrooms. Utilities should be considered when renting community housing. The cost of electric and/or gas heat has risen in the past year and can cost as much as $600 per month. Most rentals require a 1½ -month security deposit as well as the first month’s rent up front.
Purchase options
At this time, it's a buyers market. We recommend discussing your needs with the HSC before setting out to purchase a home. We can discuss commute time and schools, as well as provide area information.
Mobile homes
There are no mobile home facilities at NWS Earle. Caution should be taken when considering relocating with a mobile home to the New Jersey area because mobile home parks will not allow a mobile home purchased out of state.
