Resources are available to help you understand and manage your finances, including one-on-one financial counseling to assist you and your family with financial readiness. Services are designed to focus on money management issues throughout your active-duty lifecycle and into retirement. Monmouth County is a high-cost area and managing your money here is very challenging. Frequent deployments and numerous moves can drain the resources of service members and their families.
Financial assistance is offered for those who wish to be in control of their finances or to those experiencing money management difficulties. The Fleet and Family Support Center financial specialist can work with you to prepare a personalized budget and spending plan. Information and assistance are also available in areas such as military pay and allowances, consumer tips, savings, insurance, car buying, identity theft and credit card management.
The Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society is also available to help develop a spending plan and to provide, if necessary, grants and loans to service members and their families in the event of an emergency.
Temporary Lodging Expense
For use in the CONUS, to partially reimburse Temporary Living Expenses maximum of 10 days (for days not covered by per diem), keep receipts and discuss maximum daily allowance under Temporary Lodging Expenses with your travel clerk. As of June 2023, the maximum TLE amount for a hotel in this area is approximately $127 per day. Make sure you save all of your travel receipts. Temporary Lodging
There are two options for temporary lodgings for transferring service members, their families and civilians, Deer Run Lodging and local hotels.
The price range for rentals vary widely from $1500 for a one-bedroom apartment to $3500 (plus) for a single-family town home or condo with two or three bedrooms. Utilities should be considered when renting community housing. The cost of electric and or gas heat has risen in the past year and can cost as much as $600+ per month. Most rentals require a one to one half-month security deposit as well as first month’s rent upfront.
The average cost of housing purchases in the Monmouth County area is $639,000.

Advance Pay and Travel Allowances
Drawing of Advance Pay may not be the best option when you transfer. Advance Pay will automatically be withdrawn from your pay monthly reducing your income. Ensure you talk to your travel clerk about Advance Travel Allowance. They do not have to be repaid.
