The mission of the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate is to anticipate command and mission needs with on-time, on-target legal services with integrity and excellence at the core. The SJA delivers all legal services to the Commander, United States Air Force Warfare Center and provides legal support to the 99th Air Base Wing, the 57th Wing, the Nevada Test and Training Range, and tenant units.
The SJA accomplishes this mission through three divisions:
Military Justice - The mission of the military justice division is to assist commanders in maintaining good order and discipline through the swift investigation and disposition of disciplinary matters. This includes collecting and reviewing evidence, recommending appropriate action to commanders of Victims and Accused, and conducting disciplinary proceedings including administrative demotion, administrative discharge, nonjudicial punishment and trial by court-martial.
Civil Law - The mission of the civil law division is to support USAFWC units by providing legal advice on issues involving contract law, employee and labor law, environmental law, ethics, and other areas of administrative law. This division is also responsible for the legal assistance program, which provides legal advice to active duty military members, dependents, and retirees in areas that include estate planning, family law, consumer protection, landlord-tenant disputes, and other civil legal matters. The SJA is the commander's primary ethics advisor on items such as post-government employment, off-duty employment, gifts, speaking engagements, and engagement with the local community. The claims element is responsible for processing monetary claims filed against the government and asserting claims in favor of the government.
Operations Law - The mission of the operational law division is to support the USAFWC populace by providing legal advice on a wide-range of operational issues, including participation in the various base exercises, emergency preparedness and response, assisting with deployment readiness briefs, ensuring G-series orders are proper, and delivering weekly commander Article 137 briefs.
