If you need emergency assistance, you can expect to get help from your installation, your branch of service resources. There are programs to support you in a variety of situations, including victim assistance, emergencies en route and service-specific relief societies. Below, you’ll find types of assistance, contact information, and detailed procedures and guidance to help you through any tough circumstances that you or your family may face.
If you are near a Department of Defense Military Installation, you can contact the Military and Family Readiness Center to obtain information on Emergency Financial Assistance through the Air Force Aid Society. Emergency Financial Assistance can be sought for PCS issues related to unexpected emergency travel expenses, transportation or lodging. When applicable emergency assistance may be provided for housing costs. Please refer to the Air Force Aid Society main web page for information and to apply for assistance.http://AFAS.org.
The Military and Family Readiness Center is also a liaison to the Army, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard, providing Emergency Financial assistance to Active Duty and Retired members of these branches.

The American Red Cross works under partnership agreements with the Army Emergency Relief, Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Air Force Aid Society and Coast Guard Mutual Assistance to provide quality reliable financial assistance to eligible applicants. Assistance can include funds for emergency travel, burial of a loved one, emergency food and shelter, etc.

Before you depart, ensure you have all your important documents with you. They often are packed with the household goods which will make access during travel and upon arrival difficult.
Examples of important documents are PCS orders, passport or visa (if needed), medical records, social security cards, children's school records, medical/dental records, powers of attorney, wills, sponsor's name and home and duty numbers, Commander's and First Sergeants name and duty number, Commander Support Staff duty number and building.
Emergencies do occur to people while in transit, which is why it is important to always have contact information for your First Sergeant and Commander at the losing and gaining units readily available.
