Eligibility for Military Legal Assistance Services

The following is a partial list of clients. Review Army Regulation 27-3 for a detailed list of eligible clients:

• Active component members and family members
• Reserve component members serving on active-duty pursuant to orders and family members
• Active and reserve component members receiving military retirement or disability pay and family members
• Surviving family members of active-duty, Reserve, and retired service members who would be eligible for legal assistance if the service or retired member were alive.
• Department of Defense civilian employees serving with the armed forces in a foreign country and family members who accompany them
• Civilian contractors accompanying the U.S. Armed Forces outside the United States, and family members who accompany them, when DOD is contractually obligated to provide this assistance and then limited to ministerial services.
• Primary next of kin (as defined in Army Regulation 600-8-1, para 4-1a), executors, personal representatives, administrators and legally recognized estate representatives for matters relating to the settlement of estates for eligible clients.
• Members of other military forces while serving in the United States and family members who accompany them
• Prisoners who remain confined within a U.S. military confinement facility
