Employment opportunities for military spouses and family members are limited on Okinawa. It is not uncommon for a spouse to be out of work for up to six months, unfortunately or longer if looking for a specific field of work.  It is wise to plan and budget accordingly. Spouses and family memebers that are flexible in the type of employment may find work sooner than this estimate.  Ideally what is best for the job seeker is to keep your options open, network and be persistent. Start looking and applying before you arrive.

Positions are available in the federal system through appropriated funds (GS), Non appropriated funds (NAF), Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) and Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). Preparing a resume and having it uploaded in USAJOBS prior to arrival will be beneficial for applying for federal employment positions.

• Family, Morale, Wellness and Recreation facilities offer numerous indoor and outdoor recreational facilities and clubs, including arts and crafts, auto crafts, a beach, Havana's Scuba Locker, sports and fitness club, and a library.
• Commissaries: There is no commissary located on Torii Station. Large commissary facilities are located on Kadena Air Base, 10 km from Torii, and Camp Foster, 14 km south of Torii.
• There is one shoppette on Torii.
• Exchange system: There is no exchange located on Torii Station, although there are many exchanges located throughout the Okinawa area.
• There are branches of Community Bank and Navy Federal Credit Union located throughout Okinawa on various military installations.
