Introduction: EDUCATION
Accreditation
Department of Defense Education Activity-Europe (DoDEA-E) operates sixty-four schools within three districts throughout Europe. Like many schools in the US, DoDEA-E schools are accredited AdvancEd. Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is located in eight countries in the continents of Europe and Asia. For more detailed information, visit the DoDEA website.
Number of Schools:
There are ten schools located within the Kaiserslautern Military Community (KMC). This is the largest American school system outside the continental United States, which is operated by DoDEA. Contact the Army School Liaison Office at CIV 011-49-611-143-541-9061 or DSN 314-541-9061, for more information on school enrollment or to request a youth sponsor for children transitioning to the community.
School attendance zones are based on the location where you live. Contact the School Liaison Officer for more information regarding zoning. Prior to signing a housing rental contract, please ensure your desired location is served by school transportation. If not, the sponsor will be responsible for transportation.

Bus Service:
All schools are located on base. The school that your child/children attend depends on where you live, not where you work. Students who live on base walk to school; all others ride the bus. School bus transportation is provided by government contracted buses. Families must live in a village listed on the feeder zone listing to receive transportation to and from school. Student transportation offices are located on Ramstein and Vogelweh. The Ramstein office is located in building 994T and the Kaiserslautern office is located in building1032 on Vogelweh (housing office side). The Ramstein office serves the Ramstein schools and Vogelweh office serves the Kaiserslautern, Landstuhl, Sembach and Vogelweh schools.

All schools in the Kaiserslautern Military Community offer various activities.
The Elementary, Intermediate and Middle School offers: Chess Club, Computer Club, Music Club, Story Time, Homework Club, Kids on the Block, Garden Club, Drama Club, Math Olympiads, Reading Enrichment, Art Club, PE Club Technology Club, Honor Club, Fitness Club, Running/Walking Marathon, German Club and Primary Science Club.
The two High Schools offer a variety of activities such as: French Club, German Club, Spanish Club, Jazz Band, JROTC Drill Team, Multicultural Club, Model United Nations, Tri-M (National Music Honor Society), Dance Club, Future Business Leaders of America, German National Honor Society, Intramurals, Model U.S. Senate, Student Government, Poetry Club, International Thespian Society, Photograph Club, Varsity Club, Yearbook, Academic Decathlon, and Video Club.

Elementary School
The Elementary Schools have a dedicated staff of professional educators including enrichment teachers, speech therapists, reading specialists, counselors, Host Nation and English as a Second Language Teachers, and classes for students with special needs. A Universal Pre-K program is offered at Sembach, Vogelweh, Kaiserslautern and Landstuhl Elementary schools. Ramstein Elementary School offers Sure Start. Children must be 4 by 1 Sep of the enrolling school year.
Middle School
Kaiserslautern Middle and Ramstein Middle School have an inclusive academic and vocational educational program. The core program is supplemented with study skills and exploratory opportunities consisting of computers, industrial technology, art, home economics, intercultural/German, band, keyboarding, and chorus.
High School
Kaiserslautern and Ramstein High Schools offer a full range of academic, career, vocational and fine arts classes.
Unique Educational Opportunities
Private School
Private schools in the area include Faith Baptist Church, AGAPE International Academy and Saint David’s Primary school, each located approximately fifteen to twenty-five minutes from the center of the Kaiserslautern Military Community (KMC). You may also choose to enroll your children in German schools rather than American schools. To do so, you must visit the school near your new location and register your child.
Home Schooling
There is a large homeschool community in the KMC. They coordinate co-ops, clubs, and field trips to name a few events. They can be found on Facebook as KMC Homeschoolers.
Army Continuing Education System
USAG Rheinland-Pfalz Army Education and Personnel Testing Centers
The Army Education and Personnel Testing Centers support the lifelong learning concept and offer a myriad of educational opportunities, programs and services for Service Members, eligible Family Members, Veterans and Civilians of the Kaiserslautern Military Community. Services include but are not limited to Military Tuition Assistance and Credentialing Assistance, college and university comparisons and resources, assistance in applying for colleges and college level courses, seeking, and obtaining funding sources, education and career path planning, as well as Military Defense Language examinations and other Army Personnel exams. The National Testing Center offers CLEP and DSST examinations, PearsonVue and proctored exams, licensing exams for healthcare workers (AMP/PSI) and some proctored exams.
