Claims
Claims are filed by appointment only, except on Wednesday which has walk-in services. Dropping off claim forms, DD Forms 1840 and 1840-R can be done anytime during office hours at Building 3210. The office can be contacted by calling 011-49-631-411-8414, 011-48-631-411-8862, DSN 314-483-8414 or DSN 314-483-8862. If you annotate damages on DD Form 1840 and 1840 R after your household and hold baggage properties are delivered, you are required to report these damages within 75 days from date of delivery. This time requirement is not required if forms showing damages are both signed by you and the moving company representative at time of delivery. When you visit the Legal Assistance office’s claims section you are provided a short information brief on what you need to know about the claims process. Claimants have two choices on how to file a claim. If a full replacement of items is desired, a claim must be put in directly to the moving company. The other way is to file a claim with the Military Claims office, but you are required to sign a waiver for full replacement.
