The mission of Naval Station Mayport is to "Sustain and Enhance Warfighter Readines", providing the "Finest service to the Finest fleet".
History
Since its commissioning in December 1942, Naval Station Mayport has become the third largest fleet concentration area in the United States. Mayport is unique in that it is home to a busy seaport as well as an air facility. Mayport's operational composition is unique, with a basin capable of accommodating 34 ships and an 8,000-foot runway capable of handling any aircraft in the Department of Defense inventory. Mayport is proud home of Commander U.S. 4th Fleet (reactivated in 2008 after being deactivated in 1950). The NS Mayport& is at the mouth of the St. Johns River and the Atlantic Ocean near the small fishing village of Mayport, Florida, and near Atlantic Beach, Florida. Location
Naval Station Mayport is located 15 miles east of Jacksonville, Florida, at the mouth of the St. Johns River in Duval County. Mayport is a relatively low to medium cost of living beach community area, with a rather large military presence. NS Mayport is one of three major Navy installations in the Jacksonville area. Mayport is home to a busy seaport as well as an air facility. The warm climate here makes it ideal for outdoor recreation year round, especially for boating, camping, fishing and water sports. NS Mayport does not have a telephone operator.
Directions
Jacksonville International Airport (JIA), is located 35 miles northwest of the NS Mayport, it serves most major airlines. Taxis are available from the airport to Naval Station Mayport. Fares range from $35-$75 it depends on traffic. If you are traveling under orders the fare is reimbursable, but you must get a receipt from the taxi driver and submit it with your travel claim. To reach Naval Station Mayport from the Airport
Follow the airport access road to I-95. Turn right to merge onto I-95 South toward Jacksonville. Take exit 362 A to merge onto 1-295 South (keep driving for about 10 miles) use right lane to take exit 45 for FL-113/Merrill Rd. East toward Southside Connector, keep right to continue toward Merrill Rd, continue straight onto Merrill Rd, continue onto Fort Caroline Rd. continue onto McCormick Rd (pass by McDonald's (on the left in 1.1 mile), continue onto Mt. Pleasant Rd, continue onto Wonderwood Dr, use the left 2 lanes to turn onto Mayport Rd. (Destination will be on the right). This is the closest route, there are other alternate roads to drive to NS Mayport.
Traveling by Car
The Naval Station is located at the end of Mayport Road. To get here from the north, take I-95 South toward Jacksonville, take exit 362A to merge onto 1-295 S (keep driving for about 10 miles) use right lane to take exit 45 for FL-113/Merrill Rd E toward Southside Connector, keep right to continue toward Merrill Rd, continue straight onto Merrill Rd, continue onto Fort Caroline Rd. continue onto McCormick Rd (pass by McDonald's on the left in 1.1 miles), continue onto Mt. Pleasant Rd, continue onto Wonderwood Dr., use the left 2 lanes to turn left onto Mayport Rd. (in less than a mile you will reach the NS Mayport main gate).
Traveling from the South
Follow I-95 N, use the right two lanes to take exit 333 for FL-9B N toward Jax beaches, keep right at the fork and merge onto Fl-9B N, merge onto 1-295 N, take exit 47 for Monument Rd, turn right onto Monument Rd, in less than 3 miles make slight right toward McCormick Rd. Take McCormick Rd and Wonderwood Dr. to Mayport Rd following he above directions.
From Interstate I-10 East
Use the left lane to stay on 1-10 E, keep left to continue on US-17 N, follow signs for interstate 95 N/Int'l airport/Savanna, US 17 N turns slightly right and becomes 1-95 N, take exit 353B toward Union St, continue onto US 17 N, slight right onto W Union St, use the left two lanes to turn slightly left onto FL-115 S, continue straight to stay on FL-115 S, take the exit onto FL-113 N/Southside connector toward FL-9A, take exit 46 for Merrill Rd, keep right at the fork, follow signs for Merrill Rd E and merge onto Merrill Rd, continue onto Fort Caroline Rd, Continue onto McCormick Rd. Take McCormick Rd and Wonderwood Dr. to Mayport Rd. following the above directions.
