Return and Reunion
The purpose of Return and Reunion training is to help service members returning from deployment garner the skills necessary to ease their transition as they return home after extended absences from family and friends. Active-duty personnel start preparing to return to family and homeport during the transit home from an extended deployment. This is a highly teachable moment and an ideal time for commands to show support for crewmembers by participating in the R&R program. NSMF&FSC provides a team of professional educators to embark at the final overseas port. As the ship transits home, the R&R team conducts a variety of programs including:
Sexual Assault Prevention and Response
Sexual Assault Prevention and Response is a comprehensive, victim-sensitive program that puts all the pieces together – victim advocacy, awareness, prevention, education and data collection – to respond to sexual assaults across the Navy. Victims of sexual assault are assisted with receiving medical, legal and support services as well as information regarding their rights. For more information, contact the SAPR representative at the NSMF&FSC.
Command Representative Program
An NSMF&FSC staff member is assigned to each command to improve the flow of communication, coordinate the use of NSMF&FSC services by the command and to customize services to the needs of command. The representative is the command's liaison with the NSMF&FSC for activities such as pre-deployment, R&R programming and any of the other classes or services offered by NSMF&FSC.
Counseling Services
The NSMF&FSC has licensed counselors who provide short-term, individual, couples, family and group counseling for service members, military spouses and children. Active-duty personnel are given priority with command referrals given highest priority. Referrals to military and civilian mental health professionals are provided when required services are beyond the scope of the NSMF&FSC.
The Family Advocacy Program is a Navy-mandated program providing a continuous effort to eliminate child and spouse abuse through prevention, education and treatment. Treatment services are available for individuals, couples and families including children. Classes include STOP, or Skills, Techniques, Options and Plans for better relationships; parenting classes; couples communication; support groups; and anger management. FAP’s goal is to provide assistance to sailors and their families when issues of abuse or neglect are identified. FAP Key Personnel Training for E-7s and above is offered quarterly or upon request by command. To report a problem, or to schedule a class or briefing, call the NSMF&FSC at 904-270-6600.
