Learn about the variety of housing possibilities available as well as information about setting up utilities in your home . Housing options are available to your unique situation including: housing for families, single service members, families that are enrolled in the exceptional family member program, pet owners and unaccompanied personnel. Explore your options to find a home that best fits your needs.
Dormitory rooms will be assigned to unaccompanied E-1 to E-4 members with fewer than 30 months of total military service. If you are arriving to Aviano as an E-3 or E-4 with 30 months time in service, you will be required to move off base. Currently, there are three different dorm room configurations and the type you are assigned will depend on your squadron and occupancy rates upon arrival.
Mobile homes are not an option in the local community or on Aviano Air Base.
Please contact base legal at +39-0434-30-7843 and/or contact a local real estate agent.
Future house hunters can visit www.Homes.mil. Once logged in, service members can search for houses and apartments by number of bedrooms, square feet, distance from the base and monthly cost.
Visit InMyArea.com to search for utility providers based on your zip code. This website serves as a one-stop shop where you can explore your options, compare prices and purchase services.
Aviano Air Base has no government housing or privatized housing for families other than Senior Key and Essential personnel. For information on obtaining non-government housing, check out the housing article on this site (located in the “Get to Know the Installation” menu).
Things to consider:
Deposits are generally higher than in the continental United States. Plan accordingly.
Lease agreements and utilities set-up may take longer than expected, and certainly longer than in the States, so start house-hunting early to minimize out-of-pocket expenses.
The Housing Office and Outdoor Recreation have GPS units to loan for house-hunting purposes. It may be a good idea to plan to purchase one for other Italy/Europe travel during your assignment.
A Codice Fiscale is necessary in Italy for buying certain items such as a cellphone or initiating many contracts. Aviano AB personnel are authorized to process the request for the Italian Codice Fiscale, but only for individuals who are command-sponsored. Paperwork for the Codice Fiscale is accomplished at the weekly Newcomers Brief, also known as the Wyvern Welcome, hosted by the Military & Family Readiness Center. The paper Codice Fiscale will be made available for pick-up at the Housing Office the following week.
Housing
There is no Military Family Housing at Aviano. Rank-eligible unaccompanied personnel live in dormitories; all others live "on the economy."
Many houses in Italy do not have built-in closets. The FMO authorizes a limited number of wardrobes; however, they do take up room, thus limiting space. There are no local storage companies. Each house has 3.3 Kw of power per unit; this limits the use of several appliances at one time. Power can be increased up to 6.6 Kw maximum. We recommend you use dual voltage appliances, if possible; FMO provides two step-down transformers for 110-volt appliances. U.S. Standard (110-volt) lamps can be used, but they must have a 220-volt bulb, sold at the Army and Air Force Exchange Service and off base.
