If you need emergency assistance, you can expect to get help from your installation, your branch of service resources. There are programs to support you in a variety of situations, including victim assistance, emergencies en route and service-specific relief societies. Below, you’ll find types of assistance, contact information, and detailed procedures and guidance to help you through any tough circumstances that you or your family may face.

The Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center is located within the perimeters of Fort Belvoir, which is adjacent to the McNamara complex. This full-service hospital is available for military, family members, and retirees. For medical care en route, if you are active duty you should use Department of Defense facilities (any branch of service), if possible, or the Department of Veterans Affairs options. If these options are not available, use civilian facilities. Take the bill to your next base and process it at your gaining medical facility. Family members should try to use DOD medical facilities for emergency medical care en route. Civilian care will be cost shared under TRICARE. Emergency care will not require a non-availability statement, but non-emergency care may require one. Contact your TRICARE provider to inform them of your circumstances and ensure that TRICARE agrees with the "emergency" assessment and provides authorization whenever possible.
The American Red Cross is also available for emergency assistance anywhere you may be. Phone numbers for the nearest chapter are usually listed in the white pages of the phone directory. Most hospitals have a Red Cross office or liaison. The Red Cross can sometimes help with financial assistance and with contacting individuals that need to know where you are and what is happening. The Red Cross office on Fort Belvoir is located at 9716 Middleton Rd. building 1161 and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information call 703-805-2057. Emergency while Traveling
If you have an emergency while traveling, you can seek assistance from any branch of the Armed Services or the American Red Cross by calling the following toll free number 877-272-7337. If you experience an emergency while traveling between assignments locate the nearest military installation for help. If you are a military member you may be able to obtain assistance from the Army Emergency Relief, Navy Emergency Relief or Air Force Aid Officer at the Family Support Center. All the services have cross-service agreements to assist members during times of emergency.
Make sure you have important phone numbers such as numbers for your former Commander and your new Commander, Orderly Room/Duty Office, Command Post and your sponsor. They can be invaluable in case of emergency while in transit. It is important for you to contact someone at your gaining unit and let them know where and how you are if you are in an emergency and delayed.
Automobile Issues
Call your automobile travel agency or contact 211 for assistance with numbers for hospital, road service or other needed non-emergent information.
